Principal's Message

Dear Brown School family,

Don't forget that our Open House for Current Students is tonight! Join us at 6:00 in the auditorium to kick off the event. We can't wait for you to see what your student has been learning so far this year.

Tomorrow is a HUGE fundraising opportunity for our PTSA. Give for Good offers time slots when your donation will be matched. This is a perfect time to make that donation to support our amazing students. Be sure to check out the details below in the PTSA section below.

Love,

Dr. Angela

This Week's Essentials

1st Street Drop-Off

We want everyone to arrive safely and ready to learn, please be alert and drive carefully.

Please follow these guidelines:

  • The drop off line is single file only, DO NOT double park.

  • Do not drive around other cars after you have dropped off.

  • Doors to the school opens and drop off begins at 7:30 AM.

  • Do not get out of the car with your child. If you need to go inside, please park at a meter.

  • Have your child ready to exit the car as soon as possible by having their backpack ready. It should be beside them, ready to go.

  • Children should be seated on the passenger side of the car so they can get out on the sidewalk. There is a full sidewalk from Muhammad Ali past the front door of the school.

  • You should stop your car and allow your child to exit as soon as you can. This keeps the car flow consistent. Children should get out as soon as possible and walk along the sidewalk.

  • DO NOT wait to drop off at the front door as this holds up traffic flow.

School Portrait Make-Ups

Please email rose.mattingly@stu.jefferson.kyschools.us or joshua.saltsman@stu.jefferson.kyschools.us if you are interested in having your student take (or retake) yearbook portraits that day.

Anytime a Chromebook obligation is applied to your MySchoolBucks account you will receive an email from Drew Paige. This email will explain any repairs or replacements the student's Chromebook had to have and the amount due.

Here is a drafted email example of what you can expect to see if your child's Chromebook were to sustain any damages.

If you have any questions, please contact the School Technology Coordinator, Drew Paige

Come out and join us at our Open House tonight. This is a chance to meet your child's teachers and see student work on the bulletin boards in the common areas. Teachers of students in K-2 will all be in their classrooms in Cubs' Corner. Grades 3-5 teachers will be in their classrooms. This event gives parents the opportunity for a quick pop in to see the classroom and student work. Parent-Teacher Conferences are in a few weeks (Oct 10) when parents will be able to ask more questions related to your child's academic progress. To see more of what's happening in the elementary world click on Miss Christy's Virtual Office.

Conference day is 10/10/22. If you feel you need additional support in a class, please contact your teacher to set aside a time for a conference. Bringing parents, teachers, and the student to the same space can often clarify concerns and help the supportive adults to best work with the student to maximize student success!

Fall is around the corner, and the weather is (for now) looking beautiful outside! One aspect of mental health that is often overlooked is how our physical body affects our mental health. When our body is not feeling well, quite often our mood reflects that. It's easy to get into a place of wanting to stay inside and look at a screen for hours at a time, especially as it starts to get cool outside and there is less sunlight. However, studies have shown links from increased screen time for children and teens to an increased likelihood for a diagnosis of depression, anxiety, and an overall lower psychological well-being. In addition, seasonal affective disorder (SAD) is a common mental health issue that starts around this time of year and affects many people of all ages. While the exact cause of SAD is not clear, it is often suggested that getting outside to experience sunlight for short amounts of time each day can be helpful. So let's take advantage of the cool weather we've been experiencing lately and take a walk, go for a hike, or do one of many other outdoor activities as we are able!
