Principal's Message

Dear Brown School Family,

I am very excited and grateful to be celebrating my 50th birthday on our first day back from winter break! One of the greatest blessings of my life is being principal here at Brown; it is truly my dream job. I work with the greatest teachers and staff in the multiverse, and we serve a remarkable student body. Every day is a challenge but it is full of rewards as well.

I want to congratulate Amanda Evans who just received a promotion to a position at the JCPS Central Office working in the department of Diversity, Equity, and Poverty. I am just thrilled for her - she has been an amazing asset to our school. With that being said, if you are looking for a clerical position in a positive work environment, please be on the lookout for the job posting! It should be posted soon at THIS LINK; just search for Brown School.

Love,

Dr. Angela

Technology Spotlight

Brown Staff

Our Brown staff attended a technology training in the Ursa Lab to learn more about an online program called NoRedInk to help their students become better writers. They also learned how to use Cricut Design Space to create vinyl stickers! This led to a lot of new classes that will be doing a project in the URSA Lab in 2023. We can't wait to share more things students create in the lab with you soon!

Check out some of the stickers the staff created!

Welcome back! The Fall Semester ends officially 1/6/23. Please tie up any loose ends ASAP by contacting your teacher!

See each *below for multiple updates!

*Schedule changes: Be very wary of changing your schedules. Seniors: Your Common App asked for a current schedule. Large schedule changes (changing from AP to ADV for example) could potentially be noticed when Robin sends mid-year reports. If you need to discuss with a college rep, please do so prior to requesting a change and meeting with Robin. We are not responsible for acceptance or scholarship retraction due to your schedule change decisions.

*Robin will be in study halls the first two days of the semester (1/9/23-1/10/23) to conference with students who have completed the Schedule Change Request Form.

*Dual Credit class registration was due 12/1/22, if you did not register for classes, you will need to be enrolled in courses at Brown FOR FULL DAYS.

*Work-Based Learning-any changes in work-based learning need to be communicated

to Robin via Norah. If a job site or supervisor changed, please complete NEW paperwork with Norah NO LATER THAN 1/13/23.

*LAST DAY FOR SCHEDULE CHANGE REQUESTS 1/20/23 AT 3 PM

*Valedictorian status: Graduation programs are ordered right after Fall Semester grades post (APPROX 1/13/23). Therefore to be honored at graduation as a valedictorian, your cumulative WEIGHTED GPA from your 7th semester (Fall of senior year) is used to determine if you are at a 4.0 or above and therefore one of the valedictorians. Once valedictorians are determined, students can self-nominate with a rough draft of the speech (approx 500 words) if they would like to speak at graduation and the class and school staff will vote on who delivers the valedictorian’s address. Additional scripted opportunities could be available for those not chosen for the Valedictorian’s Address.

*Lack Sheets and Graduation Contracts: All seniors and juniors designated as lacking a graduation credit will need to set up bi-monthly check-ins with their study hall teacher or Norah. Robin will follow up with you individually to make sure check-ins are scheduled and your graduation contract is being followed.
