Principal's Message

Dear Brown School Family,

We had a great time this past Sunday at the Brown School PTSA day at the Louisville Bats. Even though the Bats didn't win, it was fun catching up with our parents and students while spending time watching America's favorite pastime. You can always count on our PTSA to have special events throughout the school year to help families connect.

For our end of year celebrations - promotion ceremonies and high school graduation - families will NOT need tickets. Ticketing at these events was a COVID-era practice, therefore tickets are not required now. Balloons are not allowed in the auditorium for any event, so please do not bring them into our building - you will be asked to take them back out to your car.

For the promotion ceremonies, since these occur during the school day patrons will be required to present an ID and sign in at the Welcome Center. With that being said, plan to arrive early so that you are not caught in a line and end up missing part of the event.

Graduation occurs on a non-school day, therefore presenting an ID and signing in will not be required. The blue gates and doors to the lobby will be opened at 11:00 AM for entry. Seats may not be held past 11:45, so at that time an announcement will be made to open up any seat not occupied by a person. Seniors will need to arrive at school between 10:00 and 10:30 AM.

Love,

Dr. Angela

Please remind your students to finish strong these last few days.  It is not too late to turn some grades around, but the clock is ticking.  If you have any concerns about your child's grade and have not spoken to the teacher yet, please do so asap or complete the student support request form for assitance.

All students should have picked their elective request for next year by now.  It was a google form that your student completed in their classrooms.  I will do my best to meet their request.

And lastly, I am thinking ahead to next year and all of the many wonderful things we in the Student Support Team want to offer.  If you or someone you know would be interested in being a guest speaker at a parent engagement event next year, please let me know by completing the student support request form.  Thank you!

Grades only for students graduating this year are posted and finalized in IC. If you have concerns, contact the teacher of record. DO NOT DELAY, once they graduate, there are no changes.

AP tests are completed and your charges in MySchoolBucks have been updated. If you paid $40, your student completed paperwork for a reimbursement (KDE covers most of the cost of a "used exam" so you get $21 back per exam). If you did not pay the deposit, the charge has been changed to $19. Please pay your student's bill. Students that do not pay, will not be registered for future College Board Exams (PSAT, AP, CLEP, etc.)

We're down to single digits in our countdown to the end of the school year! Our kids did great during testing, and continue to show us how great our Brown Bears are. As we continue through Mental Health Awareness month, I wanted to make everyone aware of a program that JCPS has recently partnered with called Care Solace. This is a program that allows me as the mental health provider (MHP) in the school to make referrals to outside mental health care providers for students with parent/guardian consent. Oftentimes one of the biggest deterrents for families to reach out for mental health care is that it feels overwhelming to even begin the process of finding a provider. This program allows me to take input from you as a guardian into what type of care you would like, and have a "warm handoff" to a provider who meets your needs. This provider is independent of JCPS, and your student does not need to be in school to meet with them (so they will be able to meet over the summer). If you feel that this would be a benefit to your student, please feel free to reach out to me, and we can try our best to find an appropriate provider for your student's mental health needs.
