Principal's Message

Dear Brown School Family,

As we move toward the end of the school year, I want to make sure you have the information you need about our school start time for the 2023-24 school year. In March, the Jefferson County Board of Education approved the district’s Start Smart plan, which adds new start and dismissal times throughout Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS).

Our school was not affected by the plan. Brown will start at 8:00 AM and dismiss at 2:40 PM, just like we do currently. Students may be dropped off as early as 7:30 AM each day. If our start and dismissal times do not work for your family and you are interested in applying for a student transfer, please visit the JCPS website. If you do not have access to a computer or want to talk to someone, please call 485-6250.

For more information about the start time changes, please visit the JCPS Start Smart website.

Love,

Dr. Angela

A Piano for the Music Department

Earlier this year we asked for help in raising money for a piano for the music department.  We held a Black History Month Benefit Concert to raise funds for a new piano.  Ms. Amy Noon was able to find a piano within the district that needed a new home.  This piano now is now sitting on Brown's stage waiting to be tuned and a few minor repairs.  The Brown PTSA is very happy to use the money raised for a new piano to get the piano ready to be used later this month and for the foreseable future at Brown.

AP testing is in full swing with KSA testing starting soon.

If you child is unsure if they signed up to take an AP exam, the fastest way to find out is for them to log into their College Board Account. Enrollment in an AP class does not guarantee an exam order was placed. Exams had to be ordered in Oct 2022 and late exams are only ordered for emergency situations such as illness.

Scheduling is ongoing and rising 9th-12th graders were directed on how to request classes in Google Classroom Class of 20##. Robin met with students in the library last week to answer questions. If a student has questions, please request a scheduling meeting by completing the Student Support Request Form. Emails to Robin get really backed up during testing and there are other members of the support team that can advise a student. Requesting time on the form is the fastest way to receive assistance. An appointment will be emailed to the student in their school email.

Hey Brown Family! It's May now, and May is Mental Health Awareness Month! I know that the mental health of our students is a priority for all of us, but it can sometimes be daunting to find the right resources in order to make sure that they are receiving the care that they need. As we move through May, here is a fun challenge that you can participate in should you like of different things you and your student can do daily during May to help improve mental health and a sense of well-being. As always, feel free to reach out to me or any of the other Student Support Team if you feel that your student is in need of any assistance with mental health or otherwise!
