Principal's Message

Dear Brown School Family,

Our high school students had an absolute blast at the Silent Disco last Friday night. This awesome event was a collaboration brought to our student body by our PTSA, Disability Advocacy Club, and Pep Club. With three channels of music to choose from on our headsets, there was always a song that got us grooving. Other highlights of the evening were the guinea pig play area, board/card game hallway, figits and calming devices, and delicious pizza and cookies. I hope this is something that we can include in our rotation of fun events in the future!

Love,

Dr. Angela

Hey Brown School family! We're back into the swing of things for the new semester, and things are already starting to get busy! Recently I have received a fair number of requests for information regarding resources and therapy opportunities for students for a variety of reasons. I have mentioned before, but in order for a student to receive therapy at school, they must meet with a provider who has a contract with JCPS. Here I have included a list of providers who have this contract, and are willing and able to meet with your student in the school setting. Having support is important, and we are always willing to help you find the right resources. If you have any questions about these resources, or how to start them please reach out to me by email or phone (502-485-8216 ext. 2633).

The JCPS FRYSC's are sponsoring a Women of Worth Conference at the JCTC Southwest Campus in March. We will choose 15 students to attend the middle school conference and 15 students to attend the high school conference. There will be 300 students throughout JCPS that will be attending each conference. It will be a great way for our students to network with students from other schools. More information to come!

The dental screening that was scheduled for the elementary students on January 25th has been canceled and will be rescheduled for a later date. I will send home updated information when we receive it.

The Louisville Free Public Library has several free programs in January that is great for families. Click here for more information.

Just a reminder - we now have a food pantry at school. If anyone is in need of food, please contact me.

Cultural Connections

The Muhammad Ali Center in Louisville is offering free admission on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

That Monday, January 16, the center will offer hourly viewings of King's “I Have A Dream” speech and host a panel of students who will speak about King and Ali's legacies.

The King holiday falls near Ali's birthday, which is January 17. The legendary boxer, who died in 2016, would have been 81.

Doors open early on Monday, at 11:30 a.m.

“We are still learning from Muhammad Ali and Dr. King, and these are special days where we hope people will come join us in community and talk about carrying forward their important work,” Ali Center president Marilyn Jackson said in a media release.

An American Red Cross blood drive will also be on site Monday, officials said.
