Principal's Message

Dear Brown School Family,

KSA and Advanced Placement testing is going well! We are wrapping up most testing this week and will be rolling into make-ups. We appreciate you volunteering to chaperone events at school, if you are utilizing the pedway entrance, please enter quietly. Many students are taking make-up tests in the pedway offices.

It is Brown School tradition that certain grade levels provide food for a special breakfast for the grade level above who is either being promoted or graduating.

Make sure you have reviewed our calendar for the months of May and June! There are many end of year celebrations and events that you will not want to miss.

Love,

Dr. Angela

Talk about Star Students??!!!  All of our students in grades 3-5 are shining bright like the Super-Star Students that they are on the Kentucky Summative Assessment (KSA) this year!  I am so proud of them!  Today, they are celebrating all their hard work by going to the BATS baseball game.  Tomorrow, 5th grade will finish up KSA, and Friday is Field Day.  We have our Kindergarten End of Year Celebrations and 5th grade Promotion Ceremony coming up soon.  We will finish out this school year strong and well-prepared for next school year, which will be on us before we know it.  Visit Miss Christy's Counseling Corner to find out more about Upcoming Events (including K Celebrations and 5th grade Promotion Ceremony), KSA Testing, Star Students, Advance Program & Gifted/Talented, Student Support Request Form, Parent Toolbox, Family Resources, Calming Strategies (which we all probably need right about now!), and so much more!

High Schools students have been doing an amazing job putting forth their best efforts on BOTH their KSA exams and AP exams. Please be extra mindful that your students might be mentally tired after a long day of testing and might appreciate a little extra acknowledgement for their efforts these past few weeks <3

Seniors that are on track to graduate have many fun opportunities over the next few weeks. For a list of events, go to the school calendar, check Google Classroom Class of 2023, or see Norah!

Seniors: Please check your grades and make sure there are no surprises. Once final transcripts are created, they do not change.

AP Testing: AP tests were $40 when students registered in the fall. Everyone that has paid and completes the exam, will receive a purchase request from their proctor to receive a refund of $21 via a check mailed home over the summer. This is a program funded by KDE. If you have not yet paid your invoice and you completed the exam, the $40 charge will be "waived" and an new invoice will be created for the new amount due.

Unused AP tests cost $40. If your student did not take the exam, you owe the $40. If you are eligible for fee waiver and do not take the exam, you owe $40.

If you are on Fee Waiver and you take the test, no action if required.

Scheduling: Information on how to request classes for next year was discussed in study halls and posted to Google Classroom Class of 20##. Current grades 8-10 schedule in IC. Current grade 11 completes a Google Form. Parents, if you have a concern, talk to your student and ask to see the info in Google Classroom. Unfortunately due to testing, I do not see emails in real time right now.

The weeks keep rolling by, and we're only a few away from summer break! It's testing week here at Brown, and that means a lot of work for everyone! I know that testing can be very stressful for many students, and can cause tension in other areas of life. As a continuing part of Mental Health Awareness Month, I'd like to offer this tool for your student to use at home, or when they have a break. Guided meditation is an old idea, but one that has a lot of merit when it comes to mental health practices. It is the concept of following a (usually audio) story/conversation to allow one to contemplate things in a safe environment. Many people feel that by using their minds to focus on more positive outcomes, it often leads them to think more positively in the future. Guided meditation is a great tool to use for anxiety, stressful situations, or even if you just need a break. If you have any questions or concerns for your student please feel free to reach out to me.
