Setting up a Zebra Printer macOS

Learn how to add a Zebra printer to a macOS based computer.

macOS Setup of Zebra Printer

First connect the printer to the back of the machine. (For best practice it should plug directly into the back and not into a USB Hub.)

Once you connect the machine then it is time to Add the printer. In System Preferences go to Printers and Scanners

First connect the printer to the back of the machine. (For best practice it should plug directly into the back and not into a USB Hub.)

Once you connect the machine then it is time to Add the printer. In System Preferences go to Printers and Scanners.

In Printers and Scanners find the Zebra printer and click on it. Then on "Use:" click the dropdown for "Choose a driver."

Then choose "Select Software" from the dropdown. This will bring up some more options.

On this options page scroll down and select Zebra ZPL Label Printer and then click OK.

Then click Add.

Now that the printer is added, there is another set of steps to add the printer since this is just a generic driver which does not work with LeafLogix.

For the next part we are going to head to this page in a web browser:

http://localhost:631/admin

When you land on this page you may be greeted with a message that says:

If you see this message, open Terminal from a spotlight search or from Applications.

Once you are in terminal just run the given command from that page as such.

Once you hit enter it will go to the next line. If no errors it was entered correctly. Otherwise try copy/pasting into Terminal again.

Next head back to "localhost:631/admin" and you should see this page now:

From this page click on Printers in the top menu bar:

From here click on the Zebra printer and you will see this page:

On this page click on the dropdown where it says "Administration" then click on "Modify Printer"

Please reference the GIF above for a guided walkthrough. Otherwise here the steps again:

Go into Modify Printer

On this page for Modify Printer click Continue, it should have the printer selected with the top radio button.

Click continue on this page, no need to change anything.

On this page select Raw and then continue.

On this page select Raw Queue (en) and then Modify Printer.

You are now done in what is called CUPS. Now we head to Printnode and then make sure that it was not detected as a new printer as we may need to setup the printer again in Dutchie.

If the "Printers Active by default" is checked, remove the checkmark and only leave a checkmark by the Zebra and Star printers.

These should be your final settings. Aside from you may have a Star printer checked as well.

Now head to Dutchie Backoffice and make sure that the printer is setup.

Next after clicking on the new printer you can configure it.

Printer names are standardized as such.

Station#_Label or Reciept_Med or Rec

Example: 06_Label_M

If a new printer was setup you will need to assign it to the station where it is located.

In Dutchie Backoffice head to Settings>Devices>Registers

From this page select the register you need to assign the printer to and from the dropdown, select the printer. and then click Update.

Now simply log into the Dutchie POS Terminal and run a test run to ensure the labels are printing.
