Digital Education and Media Pedagogy at FAU
The final day focused on how FAU integrates digital education into teacher training. We started with a visit to the DigiLLab, a dynamic space that offers training, resources, and research support in digital teaching and learning. The lab promotes the development of digital competence in line with the DigCompEdu Bavaria framework and supports both students and educators through workshops, consulting, and innovative tools.
We also explored the Additional Study Program in Media Education, which prepares future teachers to take leadership roles in media literacy and digital didactics. The program includes seminars on digital well-being, AI, robotics, and 3D printing, as well as extra-curricular activities, such as excursions to innovation hubs like BayernLab, the Future Museum, or participation in events like the Nürnberg Digital Festival.
Finally, we learned how educational sciences are structured in the teaching degree. All students follow core courses in pedagogy, including optional seminars on media education in family and school contexts. The day ended with a practical example: students are building the PIB robot, a 3D-printable, programmable robot that helps them link technical skills with classroom application.
As a useful takeaway, they also recommended the Klicksafe project, a European initiative that offers free and accessible materials for parents, teachers, and students on topics such as cyberbullying, digital well-being, and online safety.
