The job shadowing week at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) has been a powerful professional development experience for the IBSTEAM team. Throughout five days of intensive exchange, we explored a wide range of topics including digital leadership, AI integration, digital well-being, agile management, media education, and teacher counselling.
What made this mobility especially meaningful was the combination of theory, practice, and direct observation, all within a context of strong institutional collaboration. We were able to engage in interactive sessions with experts, visit real classrooms, explore teacher training models, and share our own practices and training strategies developed in the Balearic Islands.
This experience:
Strengthened our understanding of how educational innovation is implemented in other European contexts.
Provided valuable resources and models to adapt to our local training efforts in digital competence and STEAM education.
Fostered mutual inspiration and opened new channels for collaboration.
Importantly, this mobility was also a continuation of a collaboration already established with FAU, and it will continue beyond the visit. In late May 2025, three FAU experts will visit Mallorca to offer on-site workshops for the entire IBSTEAM team, focused on digital well-being, leadership, and innovative training practices.
Looking ahead, we are also working together with FAU and other European institutions to submit a joint application for an Erasmus+ Teacher Academy, with the aim of creating a long-term European partnership for teacher professional development. This initiative would allow us to deepen the work started during this job shadowing experience and contribute to building a more connected, inclusive, and digitally competent European education system.
In conclusion, this job shadowing week was not an isolated event but a catalyst for ongoing professional learning, international networking, and sustainable innovation.
