Module 3
Exploring colours through dance
We explored different colours and linked them to feelings. We worked in groups and individually to respond to the colours and feelings through dance. We moved our bodies in different ways to represent the colours.
PD Reception - Listen attentively, move to and talk about music, expressing their feelings and responses. • Watch and talk about dance and performance art, expressing their feelings and responses
Blue makes me sad.
Yellow is a happy colour.
Purple makes me think.
Red makes me angry!
Exploring dance through animals
We explored different movements we associate with animals. We worked individually and then as a group and class. We focused on building simple sequences to create unison
PD Reception - Listen attentively, move to and talk about music, expressing their feelings and responses. • Watch and talk about dance and performance art, expressing their feelings and responses
Making bird feeders
We developed our find motor skills in Forest School by making bird feeders using pipe-cleaners and ribbon with cheerios threaded on. It was trickier than we thought!
Physical Development - Develop their small motor skills so that they can use a range of tools competently, safely and confidently
Developing dance sequences
We used videos of theme park rides as an inspiration for our dance sequences. We needed to work as a group to make sure our dance flowed.
PD Reception - Listen attentively, move to and talk about music, expressing their feelings and responses. • Watch and talk about dance and performance art, expressing their feelings and responses
The Emperor's New Clothes
We developed our find motor skills by learning to sew! We needed to thread our own needle and then use the thread to make stitches in the binca. Some of us found this quite tricky and some of us were quite the natural! We have also used a loom with ribbons to develop our weaving skills like the weavers in the story.
Physical development - Reception - Develop their small motor skills so that they can use a range of tools competently, safely and confidently.
Exploring the seasons through dance.
We used the 4 seasons as our stimulus for our dance movements. We are beginning to develop simple sequences of movements as a group. We have to work as a team to decide our sequence and perform them as a group.
PD Reception - Listen attentively, move to and talk about music, expressing their feelings and responses. • Watch and talk about dance and performance art, expressing their feelings and responses
What action shall we do?
Summer - Sunbathing
Spring - Baby Bunnies
Winter - It's Snowing
Exploring the transport through dance.
We used different forms of transport in our dance sequences. We needed to work as a group to decide on our moves and put them together as a team.
PD Reception - Listen attentively, move to and talk about music, expressing their feelings and responses. • Watch and talk about dance and performance art, expressing their feelings and responses
Forest School - Using a saw
Mrs Glass introduced us to the saw. We worked with her to cut discs of wood to use in our forest school activities.
PD Reception - • Develop their small motor skills so that they can use a range of tools competently, safely and confidently. • Confidently and safely use a range of large and small apparatus indoors and outside, alone and in a group. • Develop overall body-strength, balance, co-ordination and agility
Lunar New Year Dances.
We explored the Lunar / Chinese New year, including the dragon and lion dances in the parades. We used videos as inspiration for our own dances.
PD Reception - Listen attentively, move to and talk about music, expressing their feelings and responses. • Watch and talk about dance and performance art, expressing their feelings and responses
Module 4
Jumping and Landing
In PE we focused on jumping and landing safely on 2 feet. We used our arms to keep our balance. We jumped on the mats, the benches and taller boxes. We had great fun!
DM - PD - Revise and refine the fundamental movement skills of jumping.
Travelling along the mat
We explored and practiced different ways of travelling along a mat - bunny hops, army crawl, camel walk, crab walk, back slide, log roll and egg roll. We really enjoyed ourselves!
PD - Revise and refine the fundamental movement skills they have already acquired • Progress towards a more fluent style of moving, with developing control and grace. • Develop the overall body strength, co-ordination, balance and agility needed to engage successfully with future physical education sessions and other physical disciplines including dance, gymnastics, sport and swimming.
Different types of jumps
In PE we refined our jumping skills by working on our landing and developing our star jumps, pencil jump, bunny jumps and tuck jumps.
DM - PD - Revise and refine the fundamental movement skills of jumping.
Using tools at Forest School
In forest school we developed our use of tools - the hand saw and palm drill. We enjoyed having our parents join us for forest school.
DM - PD - Develop their small motor skills so that they can use a range of tools competently, safely and confidently.
Point and Patch Balances
In PE we developed our body control by working on our balances - using a point (hands, feet, elbows, knees) or a point (bottom, back, tummy). We then worked in pairs to create a simple sequence trying to mirror each other.
DM - PD - Revise and refine the fundamental movement skills.
Creating Sequences
We combinded all of our recent learning in gymnastics to create our own simple sequencing. We needed to decide how to travel, balance and jump off different height equipment.
DM - PD - Revise and refine the fundamental movement skills
Module 5
Outdoor Physical Development
We were pleased to get back to Forest School this week! We have created a huge pit and have enjoyed digging, balancing and jumping!
DM - PD - Develop the overall body strength, co-ordination, balance and agility needed to engage successfully with future physical education . Revise and refine the fundamental movement skills they have already acquired:
Cooperate and solve problems - Matching colours and symbols
We have started our unit on cooperation and solving problems as a group and individual. We played the card game to match and sort ourselves independently. It was tricky to start but we soon got the hang of it!
CL - Use talk to help work out problems and organise thinking and activities, and to explain how things work and why they might happen.
Cooperate and solve problems - Work as a team to complete a task.
We had to work hard to ensure we were listening and following instructions carefully. We played the river game, where we are only allowed to step in the hoops to cross the river. We found this difficult to begin with but were able to get quicker at this once we got the hang of it!
CL - Use talk to help work out problems and organise thinking and activities, and to explain how things work and why they might happen.
11
Cooperate and solve problems - using our bodies to make number shapes.
We used our bodies to create number shapes. We began by making number individually and then working as a pair to make larger teen numbers.
CL - Use talk to help work out problems and organise thinking and activities, and to explain how things work and why they might happen.
PD - Develop the overall body strength, co-ordination, balance and agility
7
Cooperate and Solve Problems - using our bodies to travel in different ways
We followed a trail with our peers using the cones to give us directions on how to travel.
CL - Use talk to help work out problems and organise thinking and activities, and to explain how things work and why they might happen.
PD - Develop the overall body strength, co-ordination, balance and agility
Module 6
PE - Speed and Ability
We have worked on our speed and cooperation through different games and activities. We have worked in teams and as individuals in different sporting games.
PD - ELG - Negotiate space and obstacles safely, with consideration for themselves and others. • Demonstrate strength, balance and coordination when playing. • Move energetically, such as running, jumping, dancing, hopping, skipping and climbing.
Mountains and saucers game.
Cat and Mouse
Sports Day
We really enjoyed our sports day, even though it was extremely hot! We took part in different events such as races but also team events on the field.
