How in the world is it ALREADY October?!?! This year is flying by and I don't want you to miss it. While I know it's hard, I encourage you to stay present as much as possible and enjoy this season with your students. They deserve it and so do you! 🍂
Fall Break will be here next week (13th-15th) and I know you are all excited to have a couple days to rest and relax. Please remember that we have a teacher workday on Wednesday, Oct. 15th. The schedule for that day is linked HERE. We will have an Active Shooter drill in the afternoon and NO STUDENTS will be allowed in the building. Please make plans for personal kiddos NOT to be here.
Thank you to those of you that are remembering to sign in each day. If it has not become a habit for you, PLEASE try and work on it. We use that report to check attendance for teachers each day and I would hate for you to get charged a day when you are actually here! Also, you only need to sign OUT if you are leaving BEFORE 2:45. Again, I would hate for you to be charged with more time than you actually intended to take and signing out helps Mercedes know how to enter the absence. If you want to check your sick/personal days, you may do so through Launch Point on the Employee Self-Service Tile.
As always, I appreciate you and see how hard you work! Keep it up and let me know how I can support you!
Wow! We have blinked, and the first report card is here. I am so thankful for each one of you. Your daily grind makes Lanier run so smoothly, and our little wildcats are flourishing because of you. There are approximately 36 more instructional days until the mid-year MAP testing window opens, and every minute of instruction counts!
Please read over the list below and complete each one as needed. Reach out with any questions.

Your Well-Being Matters, Too!
This job is hard and it can be taxing, especially with all of the things you already have on your plate! You guys spend all of your time caring for others, that it can be easy to forget to care for yourself, too.
If you ever notice that it is getting too much, my door is always open! I can help you find an outside counselor or just be a listening ear.
Hall County has counseling for all employees at this link.
WCAT is our student news broadcast. It's a 5-10 minute video with weekly announcements, menus, and a few fun segments. I send the link out in the Learning Commons weekly email. This allows you to show the broadcast at your convenience.
October in the Learning Commons
October is going to be a very busy month for the Learning Commons. This week, October 6-10, we are reading "Pumpkin Jack" to all classes (K-5) and setting up a decomposition chamber for Jack the jack o' lantern. We will be watching the decomposition process, hopefully all the way to re-sprouting. We also have a pumpkin to place in the Warnock Garden to see how the decomposition process differs with the natural elements.
After Fall Break we will be completing kindergarten's comparison of the different versions of the "Three Little Pigs" and starting First Grade's Murrayville map. Two of my favorite inquiry projects!
4th & 5th grades, let me know what topics you are studying and we'll get put together breakouts and scavenger hunts to help develop those close reading and comprehension skills ad well as deduction skills students need for Milestones in May.
2nd grade we would love to have you come visit!

Grading Guidelines for English Learners (taken from Hall County ESOL Handbook)
Grading EL students can be challenging, especially when modified work or accommodations are involved. Remember, these supports are meant to level the playing field—not lower expectations. If a student performs well on modified assignments, they should earn an “A”. High grades do not mean modifications are no longer needed.
Key Guidelines:
Grades of “D” or “F” (or number grade equivalent) should not be given solely due to limited English proficiency.
Lower grades should only reflect lack of effort or progress on modified work (e.g., incomplete or missing assignments).
At the elementary level, consider marking grades with an asterisk (*) and noting that they are based on modified work.
