Thank you to everyone that came out to support our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders last night at our i3 Showcase. Mrs. Horn, Mrs. Howard, Mrs. Wiggins, and all the teachers worked so hard to make it fun and engaging and I know the parents were thankful and impressed! As a parent of a 5th grader, I am beyond grateful for the experiences he has each and every day!
I look forward to seeing you all back for a quick three weeks in December! Let me know how I can support you! 🍂

When students come to your table for small group there should be a specific skill or focus you are teaching/monitoring. What letter sounds do they know and which ones are you teaching? Can they decode all short vowel CVC words or just some? Can they answer who, what, when, where, and why questions about a text? Can they retell a non-fiction book using key academic vocabulary? Can they determine author's purpose and support with text evidence? -- The program does not matter -- YOU DO! The intentionality of your instruction is what moves the needle.
Always be aware of the research that "whoever is doing the talking is doing the learning". Our goal is that all students are engaged an participating. I encourage you to be reflective after each segment one day and write down the names of students that did not raise their hand or ask any questions and focus on getting more hands and ideas.

Getting Ready for the January ACCESS for ELLs Test Window
Just a reminder that Julie and I have kicked off working with our ESOL students once a week to prepare them for the ACCESS test so our students feel confident in both the content and the testing platform.
The ACCESS assessment is a standards-based English-language-proficiency test that measures students’ academic and social English skills across those four domains.
Here’s what we’re doing together:
Listening & Reading: Familiarizing students with what the items look like, and strengthening comprehension of both spoken and written English.
Speaking & Writing: Giving them structured time to practice expressing ideas clearly—paired with feedback.
Platform awareness: Helping students become comfortable with how the test will be delivered (online/paper) so that the environment feels familiar and supportive.
Goal discussion: Engaging students in talking about their language growth and how they can show what they know, rather than focusing only on a “test score.”
