As we rapidly move through the month of January, I encourage you to think about the goals you have set for yourself and with your students. I also encourage you to think about how you are consistently trying to meet those goals. We only have 10 weeks until our next MAP growth assessment. PLAN ACCORDINGLY! đŞ
Beth and I will have our allotment meeting with Mr. Schofield at the end of the month. We are already working on staffing for next year and are trying to begin thinking about our needs and wants. If you have not completed the intent form that was shared before Christmas, PLEASE do so ASAP. We use that in our decision-making process. As we have mid-year conferences, we will have conversations about next year, so if you have thoughts or ideas, BRING them with you! đĄ
On Thursday we will have a faculty meeting that will focus on Centegix (the new safety badges). Everyone is expected to attend as you will be issued your badge on Thursday. Please make arrangements to stay until 3:45.Â
Keep up the good work and let me know how I can support you! âď¸
Welcome back, friends. I hope you and your loved ones were able to rest and relax in your favorite way over the break. We only have about 9 weeks until our next PBIS Celebration on March 14 and about 10 weeks until our EOY MAP Testing session beginning March 31. Please see the reminders below and reach out if you need anything at all.Â
K-3rd grades: MOY MAP Reading Fluency Assessment completed between 1/13/25 - 1/17/25. Make-ups the following week. All K-3 students have already been assigned the correct assessment on the MAP Reading Fluency Platform.
K-3rd grades: Complete the Reading Fluency Spreadsheet with scores by 1/24/25
K-3rd grades: Meet in the PL room on February 6th to complete the dyslexia rubric and create reading fluency letters with Kate and Beth
All Homeroom Teachers: Input ALL students' MAP scores in alphabetical order by last name on the Lanier Data Sheet by Friday, January 31. If the student is in the 40th percentile or less (red or orange range), complete a running record monthly and enter the score in the spreadsheet. Kate can assist with running record training so instruction does NOT have to be stopped.
RTI/MTSS: Thank you for another great round of Tier 3 meetings. Our next round will be on February 19 & 20, stay tuned for the schedule.Â
đĄBright SpotsđĄ Congratulations to our January TOTM Makayla Presley and SMOM Jessie Sea! Thank you for all you do for our Wildcats here at Lanier. Please don't forget to vote for the February TOTM and SMOM here by Wednesday, January 29.
Please send up those PAWS'itive Office Referrals! Seeing the bright spots in our students helps make a positive impact on student behaviors and truly brightens their day and ours!Â

Your literacy rep has all the details.
Mrs. Schimek created a document for her team to reference when thinking about Eureka2 flex days and teaching specific MAP skills tied to a certain RIT range. I've linked it here to give you ideas.
Mrs. Pearson in fourth grade has also been instructionally planning to differentiate her extra math minutes by RIT range. She has went ahead and planned specific tasks/activities that she plans to do with each group. Check out her template here.
Mrs. Hunt plans to begin working on categorizing words and picture vocabulary by giving students sets of words and pushing them to sort and defend their decisions through speaking
Which exit tickets will you look at closely to determine if a flex day is needed? What skills will you formatively assess along the way to ensure mastery for all prior to the module assessment?Â
I see each of you making a difference by holding students accountable to achieve! â

Updates:Â
PBIS: On January 22, we will have our PBIS Tiered Fidelity Walkthrough in the afternoon. This means that we will have observers (2 or more people) walk through our building and see what we have been doing with PBIS this school year. They may come in your classroom, they may not. They will simply be observing and taking down data that is designed to help the PBIS team. Please do not stress and continue what you are doing if they come in! We are in year 1 of implementation, which means that we are in the very beginning stages and if we are missing something on our checklist, that is okay!Â
Please let me know if you have any questions about this or what to expect. I will be happy to show you the checklist, but I know in my heart that we are doing what is supposed to happen and am not worried at all!Â
Winter Weather: If you notice any student that appears to not have a winter coat, please let me know! Even if they may or may not, I would like to ask and make sure.Â
If you would like to include these resources in your classroom newsletter, here is a a winter necessities resources blurb that can help a family that is in need:Â
As the days turn colder, we understand that it may be harder than ever to keep up. Below are some resources to help you and your family stay warm and safe this winter! These resources are completely confidential, and no information will be shared with the school. However, if you would like to talk about your familyâs needs, please reach out to Olivia Reeves, Lanierâs school counselor, at Olivia.reeves@hallco.org.

Lanier 1: Please check the desktop of your laptop and your ClearTouch and make sure you have the âLanier 1â icon. (pictured above). Double Click and make sure it either shows the broadcast rainbow or the opening screen to Ice Age. This is where you will go to view our Closed Circuit Broadcasts. I will send out a schedule of movies for the last week before the break (if you have a request now is the time to tell me!) We will also broadcast the Spelling Bee on December 18. If you do not have this on your desktop or yours doesnât work, please let me know.
YouTube Ads: Iâm sure you have noticed more YouTube ads popping since the ClearTouch rollout. You have to reenable the uBlock Origin extension to block these. To do so look to the right of the URL & Click The uBlock Origin Extension (see above- itâs grey when off and red when enabled) & Turn on. You may have to click the puzzle piece to open âManage Extensionsâ then find uBlock Origin from the list. Unfortunately, this will be a temporary fix because Google is phasing out the uBlock Origin Extension since it doesnât meet their best practice for Google Chrome Extensions. Hopefully the county will find a suitable replacement soon and you wonât have to think about it again.
ClassWize: For the last six weeks or so your entire roster of kids may not have been showing up in your ClassWize monitoring although they were clearly on their devices and you had started your class properly.
To fix this issue:
1) Remove all profiles from the ChromebooksÂ
2) Power off the Chromebook completelyÂ
3) Have students sign in again. Â
This should rebuild the student's profile and pull the latest version of all extensions including Classwize. Please let me know if this doesnât fix the problem. There is another more tedious fix we can try, but hopefully this will catch most of them.
Pictures: Please add pictures you take throughout the year in the *Pictures_2024-25 Shared Google Drive. We use these pictures for the website, yearbook and Facebook Posts. It helps if you create a grade level folder and then subfolders labeled with the events' names. Sometimes it's hard to determine exactly what's happening in pictures without a little hint!Â
The WIDA ACCESS Test is an annual assessment designed to measure the English language proficiency of English Language Learners (ELLs). It evaluates students' abilities in four key areas: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The results help teachers understand how well students are acquiring English and identify areas where additional support may be needed. Teachers use the test data to tailor instruction, set language development goals, and monitor progress over time. By tracking students' growth in language proficiency, the ACCESS test ensures that ELLs receive the appropriate support to succeed academically in English-speaking classrooms. The test domains will occur on different days- meaning that each ESOL student will take the listening part one day, reading another and so forth. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to reach out to Julie or Kirby!
