Read the passage to the side about school being an OASIS. đ´ Do you agree with it? An oasis is defined as a pleasant or peaceful area or period in the midst of a difficult, troubled, or hectic place or situation. Do you feel like you create that space for our students? If not, what could you change, add or delete to make this happen? Why do you feel like this type atmosphere is critical in today's society? I encourage you to reflect on the space you create and how your students feel about it. When they are told they cannot come for two or three days because of weather, how do you think they react? What can you do to make sure Lanier is the oasis many of our students desperately need?Â
We have lots of exciting things happening this month. Please make sure that you write down the dates and plan to attend! Academic Specialists-if you didn't attend the i3 showcase in November, please plan to attend on the 23rd. All certified staff are required to attend one of the two nights. Get with Kate, Susan, or Stephanie about how you can help!Â
As you well know, we are rapidly approaching the downhill slide of the school year. Please don't run out of time to "make the adjustment", "make the change", or "do the thing" that will make the difference. The time is now and your students deserve it! â°
Please reach out if you have any questions or if I can help in any way.Â
Sidenote: There is A LOT going on between now and May both in school and out. If you are planning to use more than one personal day in a row, please be sure to email me. I want to make sure we put the right person in your room and we may even want to see if Kate is available to come in and teach a Eureka lesson or Benchmark lesson so students don't get behind. I promise I believe in teachers taking their personal days and I want you to do what you need to do, but I also want to make sure we are able to keep things on track with your students while you are gone. We have NO time to waste! đ
Hey everyone! What unpredictable weather we are having to start the second half off this year. As we start again today, my thoughts are on each of you and the tremendous growth we have all made together. I hope you were able to take a moment to read School Oasis in Alli's section. What we do in every moment matters; your interactions with your students and each other matter.  We are on the front lines of creating the next generation of builders, electricians, teachers, artists, authors, pilots, etc. Thank you for being reflective on your practice and the behaviors that make Lanier a place students and adults want to be.Â
Instructional Extension for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade will begin on Wednesday, February 4th. Mrs. Elaine Briscoe, a former Lanier teacher, will work with specific students on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays between now and the Georgia Milestones Assessment. She will work with students in the YMCA classroom from 9:00 - 12:00 on the days she is here.

PBIS WALKTHROUGH-
On Thursday February 12th 10:00-3:30, we will have the PBIS district leaders come do our walkthrough. This will be just like last year, where they will come in and observe, as well as interview students.Â
They are looking for us using the PAW's lingo, as well as a test to see if it truly apart of the culture. You do not have to do anything other than your norm. They will see it or they won't and that's okay! :)Â
Here is the LINK to our PBIS drive if you would like to see it and familiarize yourself with it!Â

As conferences approach with our ESOL families, here are five important points to always make room for in conversations with parents:
1ď¸âŁ Encourage families to keep speaking their home language consistently.
2ď¸âŁ Reading in multiple languages is helpful, not harmful.
3ď¸âŁ Promote conversations in both the home language and English.
4ď¸âŁ Suggest watching shows or listening to podcasts in different languages.
5ď¸âŁ Remind families to be patient and celebrate progressâno matter how small.
Often, parents feel pressure to minimize their home language at home. As educators, itâs important that we advocate for continued home-language development alongside English growth at school. Supporting both languages helps our students become more confident, successful, and well-rounded learners!
