Welcome to Clapton Park. Come and find out what we do in our centre!
Play Therapy is a client-centred approach and allows children to play and to explore through the use of creative arts techniques. Play therapy gives children the opportunity to develop their emotional literacy in order for them to recognise, reflect upon and learn how to deal with their behaviour in a safe space.
Our in house Trainee Therapeutic Play Skills Practitioner (TTPSP) will be providing therapeutic play sessions in the play room to children who are three years old and above with mild to moderate difficulties. These children will have been referred by their room lead or the Centre SENCO in order to support their emotional and cognitive development. Once referred the referrer will make contact with the parent/carer to arrange for them to meet with the TTPSP. Once both parties have met and the parent/carer has given consent, the play therapy sessions will then begin.
The play therapy sessions that are provided by the TTPSP are non-directive which means the children lead the session. Each child has an individual 30-40 minute session once a week at the same time and on the same day to ensure consistency. If the TTPSP is not in attendance on that day the child and the parent/carer will always be informed beforehand. The sessions take place over a 12 week period and are reviewed accordingly.
In the room the child is allowed to express themselves however they want as long as they keep themselves safe, the TTPSP safe and the toys in the room safe.
