Welcome to Clapton Park. Come and find out what we do in our centre!
We believe that the transition to "big school" is one of the most significant milestones in a child’s early life. That’s why we are so dedicated to our School Readiness Program, a supportive and structured journey designed to ensure that every child moves on with confidence, curiosity and a sense of excitement. We recognise that our children are all unique, with different needs and interests and our Centre Teacher works hand-in-hand with you to ensure both you and your child feel fully prepared for this next adventure.
The transition routine begins with clear and consistent communication. We understand that the school application process can feel daunting, so we prioritise keeping you informed about deadlines and requirements from the very start. To build your confidence as a parent, we host dedicated workshops focused on how you can support your child’s independence at home. These sessions offer practical tips on encouraging your child to dress themselves, developing fine motor skills through fun activities like cutting and mark-making and exploring early numeracy by playing games that involve recognising and ordering numbers.
In our pre-school rooms, the magic of preparation happens through play and conversation. Our practitioners weave 'school talk' into the daily routine, using role-play scenarios and targeted activities to help children visualise their new environments. Whether they are practicing sitting together for the register or exploring a school-themed role-play area, these experiences give children a sense of agency and pride, helping them feel like capable learners who are ready to take on the world.
Once school places are confirmed, our Centre Teacher takes an active role in bridging the gap between our nursery and your child’s new setting. We initiate direct contact with the schools to arrange transition meetings, ensuring that all the wonderful progress your child has made here is shared with their new teachers. To provide that extra layer of security, we arrange in-person viewings where the key person, Centre Teacher and your child can visit the school together. This face-to-face introduction allows your child to meet their new teacher and explore their future classroom with a familiar face by their side.
To mark the end of this wonderful chapter, we host a special end-of-year Graduation celebration. This is a heartfelt highlight of our nursery calendar, where we come together to celebrate every child’s achievements, friendships and growth. It is a moment of immense pride for the children to be recognised for their hard work and a beautiful way for families and staff to say a "see you soon" as they prepare to fly the nest.
Beyond the practical steps, our transition practice is a powerful tool for emotional resilience. By normalising the change and celebrating the journey through our graduation, we help children view the move to school as a positive and natural progression. It creates a supportive community where the end of the nursery chapter is marked with joy, helping every child build the self-esteem they need to walk through those new school gates with a smile on their face and a heart full of confidence.
