Welcome to Clapton Park. Come and find out what we do in our centre!
Our Maths Marvels sessions for Rising 3s and Preschoolers are powered by the White Rose Maths scheme, designed to transform abstract concepts into an exciting world of discovery. We believe early numeracy is about far more than just reciting numbers; it is about sparking curiosity, spotting patterns and developing the foundational problem-solving skills that children will use for a lifetime. By fostering an environment where numbers are celebrated, we help our young learners enhance their cognitive development and build the logical thinking necessary for their future educational journey.
Research consistently shows that early exposure to mathematical concepts has a profound impact on a child’s later academic success. Through engaging, hands-on activities, our children learn to recognise quantities, identify complex patterns and understand the relationships between different objects. This interaction goes beyond basic counting, allowing children to categorise, compare and analyse information effectively. As they explore these numerical concepts, they naturally develop the critical thinking and reasoning skills essential for overall intellectual growth.
Beyond logic, these sessions play a vital role in boosting language and social development. As children discuss shapes, sizes and comparisons, they expand their vocabulary with precise new terms that enhance their communication across all subjects. Working in small groups also teaches the value of teamwork and collaborative problem-solving. Every time a child masters a new concept, their self-esteem grows, giving them the confidence to embrace more challenging tasks and approach learning with a positive, 'can-do' attitude.
We ensure that maths is woven seamlessly into the fabric of the day through play-based learning and daily routines. From singing number rhymes like Five Little Ducks to reinforce rhythm and counting, to sorting blocks by size or 'measuring' ingredients in the mud kitchen, we make mathematics tangible and fun. Whether we are counting steps on the stairs or spotting shapes in the local environment, we help children make real-world connections, proving that maths is a helpful tool for making sense of the world around them every single day.
