Welcome to Clapton Park. Come and find out what we do in our centre!
Tracking gives us the opportunity to reflect on how children are progressing across all areas of learning and to ensure that each child’s needs are being met. It allows for all of our practitioners to gather information about the child’s learning and development as a foundation. They are then able to make effective judgements about how to adapt, develop and improve their practice, planning and provision in order to move the child forward.
Our Managers and Senior Leaders also collate individual children’s assessments to analyse trends within the nursery and use this information to improve practice and support staff. They may look at groups of children and make meaningful comparisons enabling them to move the children forward in their learning.
Weekly Staff Meetings
The staff in the room meet twice a week to discuss the learning that has taken place in the room during that week, what it would be like to be a child within their room and to plan for the following week based on children's next steps and interests. Each room will explore a topic for two consecutive weeks allowing enough time for children to explore activities and experiences further.
Tracking Week
Within the last week of every month known as 'Tracking Week', the room lead will meet with the practitioners in the room to discuss all children inclusive of their key children. This will allow them to monitor the progress of individual children or groups of children and to discuss how best to support them moving forward. The team will look at whether the children are working at 'expected' level, 'working towards' expected level or are in need of extra support as they are 'below expected' level in each area of learning based on the Development Matters objectives.
This is then recorded on the CPCC Tracker every two months which can be accessed by the team based in the room as well as the Senior Leaders and Centre Teacher. The staff can also record notes about what the child may find challenging and how best they can be supported through interventions.
If there is a concern about a child's progress, the Room Lead will meet with the Centre Teacher or Centre SEND co to discuss the child's needs and to plan for their next steps accordingly. Together they are able to make a judgement on whether the child is in need of extra support through interventions in the centre or provided by external agencies. Parents/Carers will always be informed by the Room Lead of any concerns about their children's progress.
Welcome Stories
Parents/Carers are provided with a written report after the first six weeks of their child settling into the nursery. The written report is accompanied by photographs allowing for the parent/carer to be see how their child has settled into their new room. The Welcome Story may include the child' social interactions, interests and observations of self-regulation.
Transition Reports
When a child leaves the nursery a Transition Report will be written by their Key Person. It is an overview of the child's learning journey which outlines what the child has achieved during their time at the nursery and what potentially their next steps may be in their new setting. Once completed the parent/carer will be informed and are given a copy of the report. The report will then be sent to the child's new setting by the Centre Teacher.
