Maple Kindergarten (Preschoolers in the Forest)
At Maple Kindergarten Forest School, we believe that learning should extend beyond the confines of a traditional classroom. Our outdoor setting provides children with a distinctive educational experience that fosters curiosity, creativity, and connection with nature. Located in the beautiful Hackney Marshes, our program runs from Monday to Thursday during term time, allowing children to immerse themselves in the natural world around them.
We understand that many families have children in Reception who also attend school. To accommodate this, we offer dual placements for these young learners. This means your child can enjoy the best of both worlds: attending their regular school for three days a week while spending the remaining days at our Forest School. This arrangement allows them to engage in enriching outdoor activities and develop essential skills in a nurturing environment.
Our program is designed to maximise outdoor learning. From Monday to Tuesday, preschool children can join us from 9:30am to 4:00pm, while Reception children participate on Wednesdays and Thursdays during the same hours. Each day is filled with opportunities for exploration and discovery as children learn about their surroundings through hands-on experiences.
Being outside all day allows our children to observe and interact with nature throughout different seasons and weather conditions. This not only enhances their understanding of the environment but also promotes physical health and well-being. Children learn valuable lessons about teamwork, problem-solving, and resilience as they navigate various outdoor challenges.
At Maple Kindergarten Forest School, we have also designed an engaging two-week timetable that offers enriching experiences for your children.
During the first week, known as Adventure Week, children embark on an exciting Forest School Trek. This adventure allows them to explore a variety of natural spaces, fostering a sense of wonder and curiosity about the environment around them. The activities during this week are carefully crafted to encourage exploration and discovery, helping children connect with nature in meaningful ways.
In the second week, referred to as Wild Week, children will spend time at their designated site in the marshes. This week focuses on deeper engagement with their surroundings and encourages teamwork and social interaction among peers. Additionally, children will have opportunities to express their creativity through arts and crafts projects. These creations will be documented in their special books, allowing them to reflect on their experiences and showcase their artistic talents.
Maple Kindergarten Forest School is dedicated to providing a child-centered learning environment that promotes holistic growth. Our experienced staff members are committed to supporting each child’s development by fostering confidence and self-esteem through hands-on experiences in nature. We believe that these outdoor adventures not only enhance learning but also nurture emotional well-being.
By participating in these structured yet flexible activities, your child will gain valuable skills that contribute to their overall development while having fun in a safe and supportive setting.
As parents, we want to ensure that our children grow up confident and independent. One of the ways we can foster this independence is by providing them with the freedom, time, and space they need to explore and learn at their own pace. When children are allowed to make choices and take initiative in their learning, it significantly boosts their self-confidence. They begin to understand their capabilities and develop a sense of ownership over their actions.
Participating in team activities and engaging in free play are essential for children’s social development. These experiences help them become more aware of how their actions affect others. As they navigate group dynamics, they learn valuable lessons about cooperation, empathy, and the importance of considering the feelings of their peers. This understanding not only enhances their social skills but also prepares them for future interactions in various settings.
Children’s sensory experiences play a crucial role in language development. By engaging with different textures, sounds, and sights during playtime, they expand their vocabulary and improve their communication skills. These interactions stimulate curiosity and encourage them to express themselves more effectively. As they describe what they see or feel, they build a richer language foundation that will serve them well throughout their lives.
Physical development is another vital aspect of childhood growth. Activities such as tree climbing not only provide fun but also help improve children’s physical stamina as well as gross and fine motor skills. Climbing trees challenges them physically while enhancing coordination and balance. Such active play is essential for developing strength and agility, which are important for overall health.
In conclusion, by allowing our children the freedom to explore independently while participating in team activities, engaging in sensory experiences, and enjoying physical play, we create an enriching environment that supports their holistic development; emotionally, socially, linguistically, and physically.
