Welcome to Clapton Park. Come and find out what we do in our centre!
The Reggio Emilia approach is a fundamental element of our nursery curriculum, built upon the belief that every child is a strong, capable and resilient learner. It is a child-led philosophy that recognises children as active co-constructors of their own knowledge, driven by their natural curiosity and desire to understand the world. By implementing this approach, we provide an environment that encourages children to lead their own investigations and express their ideas through a variety of different mediums.
Central to this approach is the concept of the "Hundred Languages of Children," which acknowledges that children have many ways of communicating, including drawing, sculpting, dramatic play and movement. Our practitioners act as researchers alongside the children, observing their interests and providing carefully selected materials or questions that spark further exploration. This method ensures that learning is a collaborative process, fostering critical thinking and problem-solving skills that are essential for a child's future academic journey.
The role of the environment is also paramount, often referred to as the "third teacher." Our spaces are designed to be aesthetically pleasing and filled with natural, 'loose parts' materials that offer endless possibilities for open-ended play. The Key Person carefully documents these experiences through photographs, observations and transcripts of the children’s conversations. This documentation is not only used to assess a child's progress but also to make their learning visible to themselves, their peers and their families.
