As you can see above, CHAMPS stands for:  Conversation, Help, Activity, Movement, and Participation.  When students follow the CHAMPS expectations, it leads to Success!  We encourage you to ask your student(s) what they learned about CHAMPS during the first few days of school.  You can ask your student when and how students are allowed to talk, get help, get out of their seats, and how to actively participate in various key places in our school and in their classes.  

In addition, we are using different Voice Levels with the CHAMPS approach.  The students should all know about how and when they should change the volume of their voices, to be appropriate with the activity they are doing.  The Voice Levels range from 0=QUIET/NO TALKING, 1=Whisper, 2=Quiet Conversational Voice, 3=Presentational Voice, to 4=Outside Voice. 

You can even use the CHAMPS approach AT HOME!  Think about what would CHAMPS look like when eating dinner as a family?  What about when in the car for a road trip? What about when going to visit a friend or family member?  It's all about laying out the expectations so students know exactly what they should be doing! Give it a try!

Parent/Guardian/Student Handbook - Each year we ask all students and parents in the district to review the contents and expectations of the student/parent handbook, which is linked here - Parent/Guardian-Student Handbook 2023-2024.  After reviewing the handbook with your child, please sign the electronic form as soon as possible - Parent Handbook Sign Off 2023-2024.

GMS Picture Day is NEXT WEEK on Thursday, August 31st - 📸 + 😁.  We are excited to let you know we have moved to a new picture company, Pictures With Class - www.pictureswithclass.com. They come highly recommended and both HES and GMS will be using the same company!   

• This is a PREPAY EVENT. Online ordering is ONLY available UP TO 24 HOURS after picture day.

• To order online, enter the online password for GMS: 0110693IN.  

• Shipping and handling charges may apply to orders placed after Picture Day.   

• They use a "gray screen," which means students can wear ANY COLOR they would like. 

I hope you are able to join us for the Golf Open House in two weeks on Thursday, September 7th, 7:00 - 8:00 pm. We are so grateful this is such a well-attended evening and we look forward to seeing you there!  As a reminder, parking is sometimes tricky. Feel free to use the Bank parking lot as overflow.  

Are you looking for ways your child can get involved?  Check out the GMS Music, Clubs and Sports 2023-2024 document for information about the activities, and how to sign-up!  In general:

• Music - Band, Chorus, and Orchestra have links in the document to a google form. You should sign-up NOW!  Music starts right away! 

• Clubs - The clubs listed are the clubs being offered this year. The sign-up for clubs will open next Wednesday, August 30th using the website Meet the Teacher. Clubs will begin the week of September 11th.

• Sports have tryouts - Tryout information has been communicated in a separate email directly to parents.   **SPORTS PHYSICALS** - If your student going into 6th, 7th, or 8th grade is interested in playing a sport this year, they MUST have a sports physical on file (EVEN to TRY OUT).  See the "Sports Section" below for more information about the seasons. Physicals are usually good for one year and one day, so if your child is in sports, this is something that will need to happen every year base on the date of their last physical.

6th Grade Physicals and Immunizations - As a reminder, it is a requirement for all incoming 6th graders to have their physical and immunizations for school. You are welcome to drop off your paperwork at the office 8:00 am - 4:00 pm. Physical Form For Doctor (6th grade, sports, new students)
