Today we played the student-staff basketball game for the first time since the pandemic!  This is a long-standing tradition we were excited to bring back! This is where the 8th-grade students have a chance to play against staff members. The 5th-7th get to support and cheer for both students and staff.  The energy was electric and the students did an outstanding job - BOTH spectators and players!  

TONIGHT - 5th and 6th grade DANCE sponsored by the PTA!  There will be a DJ as well as snacks and glow sticks for sale. NOTE: Students will be putting their COATS and CELL PHONES in their lockers during this event.

• TONIGHT on Friday, January 26th from 6:30-8:00 PM, students in grades 5 & 6 will have a Dance Party at GMS. Registration is required for this event - Click HERE to register

Grab and Go Lunches on Half-Days - We have a half-day coming up on Thursday, February 8th. Please complete this form (Grab and Go Lunch Form) for every child you would like to have a sack lunch made for that day.

• This form will close on Friday, February 2nd at noon.  

• The cost of the sack lunch is the same as the regular school day lunch ($4.00, reduced $0.40) and includes a vegetarian (soy/sunbutter and jelly) sandwich, a vegetable, a fruit and drink.

REMINDER - Student tardies - Starting this quarter, students who are late to class will be marked tardy (page 26 in the handbook).  Every 4th tardy a student receives (at ANY point in the school day or in the school year) will result in a detention where the student will reflect and come up with solutions to help be on time.  

• 4 tardies = after-school detention (1 hour)

• 8 tardies = after-school detention (1 hour)

• 12 tardies = after-school detention (1 hour)

• 16 tardies = Saturday detention (3 hours)

We all know what it feels like to walk into a meeting or appointment late – We feel flustered, unsettled, and out of the loop.  Students must arrive to class on time so they don't miss out on valuable instruction. Thank you for your assistance and support!

OPPORTUNITY - JR. VIKETTES DANCE CLINIC! The Niles North Dance Team would like to invite your students to participate in our Jr. Vikettes Dance Clinic for our 2024 basketball season!  This is the Ultimate Game Day Experience. 

WHAT:  Participants will spend the week learning new dance skills, a sideline, and a halftime routine. On game day, they will warm up with the team, do some pre-game sidelines, and perform at halftime!  They will get a taste of what it is like to be a Niles North Vikette!

WHO:  This clinic is open to 1st - 8th graders who might be interested in dance or just love performing in front of a crowd!  

WHEN: The clinic dates are Feb 5, Feb 6, and Feb 8 (Monday, Tuesday, & Thursday) from 6:30p to 8:00pm with the halftime performance at our varsity boys basketball game on Friday, February 9th at 7:00pm.

COST:  The cost of the clinic is $30, which includes a t-shirt OR $20 for returners that did that Fall 2023 clinic & do not need a new shirt.  You may pay by cash or check no later than Friday, February 2nd. If you are mailing in the payment. please mail in enough time for it to be RECEIVED by the deadline. More payment details are on the registration form.

Winter Clothing Drive - Volunteer Service Club Share the Warmth is January 29th-February 9th. Drop off your donations into the boxes throughout the school. We are collecting the following items (new or gently used and clean): Coats, hats, mittens/gloves, scarves, belts, hand warmers and backpacks. 

We have FOUR home basketball games NEXT WEEK - Spectating basketball games - Here are some reminders about being a spectator:

• Home Games - Students are allowed to stay after school to watch home games. We have adult supervision from dismissal until the end of the game. Students are NOT ALLOWED to leave the school and return later unless it's with a parent or an adult responsible for them. 

  • • This means students are NOT allowed to leave to go to Walgreens or Dunkin and then come back. If they are staying for the game, they need to stay at the school where they are being supervised. 

    • FYI - The Volunteer Service Club sells concessions on the stage at several games. Students may also bring a snack to eat after school.

• Away Games - ANY student who spectates at an away game MUST be sitting with and supervised by an adult.  If you take one of your child's friends to watch a game, the expectation is that you are responsible for that child. Students are NOT allowed to be dropped off at other schools to watch basketball games.

    • Tuesday, May 28 - Eighth-grade Academic and Extracurricular Awards Assembly (9:00 am - parents welcome)

    • Wednesday, May 29 - Eighth-grade Graduation rehearsal and half day for 8th graders (dismissal at 11:30 am)

    • Wednesday, May 29 - Eighth-grade Graduation (6:45 pm at Niles North)

Ongoing reminders... Thank you for helping your middle schooler remember these three things EVERY DAY:

1. 1. 1. Bring a fully CHARGED Chromebook to school.

      2. Wear their school lanyard and student ID to school.

      3. Arrive ON TIME to school. Students should be sitting in their seats by 8:20 am (best to drop off by 8:10 am).
