Weekly Update 2023-2024
Be Kind * Be Respectful * Be Your Personal Best
3-22-2024
Today marks the end of the 3rd quarter and the start of spring break. I hope you have an enjoyable break, and I look forward to seeing everyone back on Monday, April 1st. When we return, students will switch their exploratory class:
5th and 6th-grade students will have Art with Ms. Boyle
7th and 8th-grade students will have STEM (part 2) with Ms. Mihalic
Report cards will be available in Infinite Campus on Wednesday, April 10th.
IAR assessments COMPLETE and Make-ups – This week we finished our IAR assessments with three Math units. For any students who were absent during one or more of our testing days, make-up testing will be scheduled throughout the week we return from Spring break.
Grab and Go Lunches on Half-Days - We have a half-day coming up on Thursday, April 18th. Please complete this form (Grab and Go Lunch Form) for every child you would like to have a sack lunch made for that day.
This form will close on Friday, April 12th at noon.
The cost of the sack lunch is the same as the regular school day lunch ($4.00, reduced $0.40) and includes a vegetarian (soy/sunbutter and jelly) sandwich, a vegetable, a fruit and drink.
STARTING Quarter 4 - IMPT - Parent Letter - Student Tardies.
The Illinois 5Essentials Parent Survey is available and open to parents until March 29, 2024. We want and need your input! As of today, GMS only has 18% of the parents who've completed the survey. We are getting closer! For GMS to receive a parent report, we must have at least 20% response rate. To take the survey please visit https://survey.5-essentials.org/Illinois/ and select the appropriate survey to begin. If you have children at both Hynes Elementary School and Golf Middle School, please complete a survey for each school.
The survey gathers data related to five indicators that can predict important student outcomes, including improved attendance and larger test score gains. These five indicators that affect and predict school success are Effective Leaders, Collaborative Teachers, Involved Families, Supportive Environments, and Ambitious Instruction.
For more information about the Illinois 5Essentials Survey, or to view previous years' Reports, please visit https://www.5-essentials.org/illinois. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact UChicago Impact Client Services at 1-866-440-1874 or impact-surveys@uchicago.edu.

🏀 ♥️ ⚽️ ♥️ 🏐 GMS Sports Section 🏐 ♥️ ⚽️ ♥️ 🏀
Most sports are for students in 7th (JV) and 8th (Varsity) grades. For some sports, we offer opportunities to the 6th graders. That depends on the interest at the 7th and 8th-grade levels.
IF you have a child who is planning on trying out for one of the seasons below next year, he/she
MUST have a current sports physical on file in the nurse's office.
PLEASE DO NOT WAIT. A student cannot try out without a current physical on file.
FALL sports
Girls Volleyball (Sept-Oct) - Varsity and JV
Boys Soccer (Sept-Oct) - Varsity and JV
WINTER sports
Girls Basketball (Nov-Dec) - Varsity and JV
Boys Basketball (Jan-Mar) - Varsity and JV
Cheerleading (Jan-Mar) - Varsity only
