We understand that losing the ability to use a whiteboard or chalkboard or even a projector in a classroom can be detrimental. Here we will share with you options to share a document, bring up a whiteboard, or show a video through the Share Screen Function of Zoom.
Once you have logged into your Zoom class through canvas, you will have the option to Share Your Screen during your Zoom meeting.
To begin sharing your screen in your Zoom class, you will need to move your mouse as if you are going to click “End Meeting”
To the left of “End Meeting” you will find a green icon that looks like a box with an up arrow and says “Share” beneath it, click on this icon
A new screen will appear asking you to select what open screen you would like to share. Click on the thumbnail of the screen you would like to share.
If you want to share a tab on your web browser, you can click on the thumbnail of the open web browser and then click on that tab
If you would like to open a word document to type things out for your students, you can open a blank word document to share on the screen and your students will be able to see the document as you type
Another option is using the whiteboard that comes up in the share screen menu. It is one of the first icons, it looks like a like a white box with a blue marker in it. This option is exactly like a classroom whiteboard.
NOTE: you will still be able to see and hear your students as well as still use your mouse.
The menu that had been on the bottom of your screen (where the “end meeting” is located) is now along the top. To access this menu, move your mouse over the green bar in the center top of your screen that reads “ID:” followed by a number.
You will not be able to end your Zoom class without stopping your screen sharing first. To stop sharing your screen, click on the red bar in the top center of your screen that has a white box and says “Stop Share.” This will take you back to the traditional view of Zoom with the menu along the bottom. You will now be able to click “End Meeting” and “End Meeting for All”
Please Note: If you would like to stop participants from sharing their screens, please see "Prevent Participants from Screen Sharing"
