In Zoom, CNDLS has set up the office hours as being one continuous meeting that people can enter as they wish. In order to avoid multiple students entering your office hours at a time, we recommend that you set up a waiting room and bringing students in one by one to meet with you.

In your Canvas account, navigate to the Zoom section of your class.
Scroll down to where your desired meeting is located
Click on the down arrow located to the right of your name. This will provide a menu that says “Edit”, “Delete”, and “Open in Zoom Site.” Click on “edit”
This will open a new screen with options to customize your meeting. Scroll down to where it says “Enable Waiting Room” here you will need to make sure you click the circle next to the word “on”
Once you have turned on the wait room, you will have to scroll to the bottom of this screen and press the button that says “Submit”

Once you have opened your meeting, you will need to pull up your participant list. To do this, go to where you would end the meeting and scroll to the left to the icon that looks like two people and says “Manage Participants” beneath it. Click on this.
On the right side of your screen, you will now see all participants of your meeting on the right hand side of your screen. As students join your meeting, you will see their name appear in this menu.
On the students’ end, they will see a screen that says “The Host Will Let you in the Meeting Shortly”
To hold your meeting with a student, you will need to press the blue “admit” button next to the students’ name then you will be able to hold a one on one conference with the student while the others wait.
5) To end your conference with the one student, you will have to go back to their name on the right side menu of participants that you opened in step 1. Roll over their name and click on the button that appears next to their name and says “More” with a down arrow.
6) This brings up a menu, select the option that says “Remove” located at the bottom of the menu that appeared.
7) You can now repeat steps 4-6
