Adding Extra Credit and Weighted Percentages in Canvas

1) Log into Canvas and go to the class you would like to assign Extra Credit to.

2) In the left hand menu, click on “Assignments”

3) To the left of the blue button that has “+ Assignment”, there is a grey button that says “+ Group” click on this grey button.

4) This will prompt a box on your screen that says “Group Name”. Here is where you will enter the assignment group name, in this case “Extra Credit” and click save.

5) Once you have created all of your assignment groups, click on the button with the 3 dots to the right of where it says “+ Assignment” This will prompt a menu that says “edit assignment dates” and “Assignment groups weight” Click on “Assignment Groups Weight.”

6) This will prompt a box that says “Weight final grade based on assignment groups” check off the box that is next to this ONLY IF it is not checked off already. If it is checked off, please proceed to step 7.

7) You can now see all of the assignment groups that you have created. Next to each one is a box where you can enter the percentage of the final grade that that category will carry.

8) Click Save

PLEASE NOTE: When adding an assignment to the assignment group, you still need to set the points assigned to the assignment. If you want it to be extra credit, be sure to set points to 0. If you have assigned Extra credit, in step 7 to have 0% in the weighted grade, then you will not need to check the box that says “do not include this in the final grade percentage” as long as this assignment gets placed under the “Extra Credit” Assignment group. In other words: Make sure the assignment is correctly placed under the correct assignment group you have created.
