Being customer focussed means working well with customers making them feel important and happy.
It’s a really important skill, because all jobs involve selling to a customer.
You could be using your customer service skills face-to-face in a restaurant or supermarket, or in a sales meeting with a client. You could be using them online, over the phone or face to face. In all these situations you need to be confident speaking to customers.
What does it mean to be good at customer service skills? (being customer focused)
To be good at customer service (being customer focused) you need to have good communication skills meaning listening to the customer and understanding what they want, analysing the tone and language of the customer, and going the extra mile to get them what they need, i.e talking to managers for support and being prepared to apologise when required.
You may be dealing with customers face to face or over the phone/virtually. It is important to make sure customers feel listened to.
Sometimes customers may seem confrontational or annoyed, it is important for you to practice communicating clearly and calmly to help manage the conflict.
Speaking to friends and family with kindness and respect, practicing this helps it to become something we naturally do and not only does this help us socially but also when we are interacting with customers.
playing a team sport, this helps us to practice communication skills, different ways of communicating and communicating clearly with respect to our team mates.
Find opportunities to practice your communication skills as this will help you to feel confident when speaking to people you don't know.
Always speak to your peers and college staff with respect and kindness.

In all areas of your life it is great to meet other people with respect & tolerance along with kindness and how we communicate is a big part of that, we communicate through body language, tone of voice, words and many other ways in which people communicate. SO even if you are not dealing with customers directly it is important to meet everyone with respect as you would a customer.
Employers love people who are customer focused as they now they are going to be able to support customers which will then support the business. This also helps to boost workplace morale and wellbeing because it is a polite and friendly environment.
