Being motivated means being eager to achieve a goal or purpose.
What does it mean to be positively motivated? If you are positively motivated you are able and willing to do new things with enthusiasm to achieve your goals. It is important to know that motivation comes and goes.
When you are motivated you are able to work independently to achieve your goals.
How can Motivation improve your life?
Motivation is what pushes us to achieve our goals, feel more fulfilled and improve our overall quality of life. Understanding and developing your self-motivation can help you to take control of many other aspects of your life. Motivation is one of the three areas of personal skills that are integral to the concept of emotional intelligence.
Self motivation has also been linked to emotional intelligence & there are four elements that make up motivation:
Personal drive to achieve, the desire to improve or to meet certain standards
Commitment, to personal or organisational goals
Initiative, which he defined as ‘readiness to act on opportunities’
Optimism, the ability to keep going and pursue goals in the face of setbacks. This is also known as resilience.
To improve self-motivation, it is therefore helpful to understand more about these individual elements
Starting tasks promptly and getting them done on time
Initiating new projects that can benefit the business
Staying focused on work without getting distracted
Making sure to clean the house when it gets messy
Doing something that you enjoy which keeps you active
Learning something new
Turning up to college on time
Being self motivated to complete college work
Finding industry placement to support your college course and skills development
So why is this good for your career?
employee motivation is defined as: ‘the enthusiasm, energy level, commitment and the amount of creativity that an employee brings to the organisation on a daily basis’.
Motivation can be contagious, if one employee is actively seen to be happy and engaged at work, morale will lift and motivation spreads within the team. Therefore, employers want individuals who are able to be self motivated to help support the success of the organisation and team.
Employers want to know that you will be an enthusiastic employee who is committed to your work. They want to know that you will do your best work—even without a boss asking you to do so. Therefore, when an employer asks, “Are you self-motivated?” you should say yes. However, a strong answer to this question will go beyond a one-word answer, and will include specific examples of your self motivation.
