All chemicals in this university are managed by the system called UTCRIS using barcodes. Watanabe-san registers chemicals when you start and finish using them. You need to properly treat it in order that he can register it.

When you order and receive new chemicals, give the chemicals (and of-course documents about accounting) to Watanabe-san. Sometimes he asks you to weigh the chemicals (whole weight including bottles). Then, bring it to the basement and weigh it using an electric balance. Tell the weight to Watanabe-san and give him the chemicals bottle. He will label a barcode sticker to the bottle and give it to you. After the barcode sticker is labeled on the chemicals, you can start using it.
Open the cap and dry the bottle in the fume hood overnight. (Label as “Empty, drying”)
Weigh the empty bottle (with or without the cap).
Write down the weight on the blank space of the barcode sticker.
Peel off the barcode sticker.
Peel off the chemical name sticker and throw it away. (If it is difficult to peel it off, you can give up peeling off and use a marker pen to black out the chemical name sticker.)
Throw the caps to the trash box for plastics.
Put the bottle in a plastic bag in front of the refrigerator in the front room in the basement.
Hand in the barcode sticker to Watanabe-san. -
Pour out the remaining liquid into a proper waste liquid tank.
Rinse the bottle (glass bottle or plastic bottle) with a small amount of water and pour out the water into the proper waste liquid tank.
Repeat this ~3 times.
Open the cap and dry the bottle in the fume hood overnight. (Label as “Empty, drying”)
Weigh the empty bottle (with or without the cap).
Write down the weight on the blank space of the barcode sticker.
Bring the empty bottle to the room 63C2 and give it to Watanabe-san.
In the case of specially dangerous chemicals or if you have any concerns, ask Lab staffs beforehand.
* Distilled water is not regarded as chemicals in the system. You can use it without barcode stickers and dispose it without special treatments. When you use it up, remove caps and throw the caps to the trash box for plastics, and crush empty bottles and throw them to the trash box for PET bottles. * Basically you should order the smallest quantity of chemicals listed in catalogs. Although unit prices of large amount bottles are low, it costs much more money and time for disposing unused chemicals.
Stocks of 3L ethanol, IPA, acetone are kept in the chemical storage room in the basement. Borrow the room key from Watanabe-san. The chemical bottles are numbered. Ask him for which number you should use first.
