To the left are double ten frame cards which help students understand that teen numbers are composed of 10 and some more. Your child should not have to count the dots to identify how many. S/he should be able to instantly recognize (subitize) the dots on each ten frame and then use the understanding of 10 and some more to identify the teen number. For each card have your child tell you how many s/he sees and then explain how s/he knows. For example, a child might say, "16, I know because I see 10 and 6 more." To make practice with these cards more fun, you could print off two sets and play a game of memory or war.
