At the end of 1st grade students are expected to be fluent with addition and subtraction facts within 10. This means addition facts in which the answer is 10 or less and subtraction facts where the total started with is 10 or less. Fluent means that a child can recall the fact within several seconds without the use of fingers, manipulatives or counting. Below is a link to addition and subtraction flash cards and a fun math fact game you can print and practice at home. Please note that the math facts within 10 have been broken down into 3 lists. At home, begin with list 1 and make sure your child can quickly recall those facts before working on list 2 and so on.
