By the end of 2nd grade students are expected to solve addition and subtraction story problems within 99. This means that the answer to an addition story will be no higher than 99 and the subtraction stories will begin with a number no higher than 99. At home, you can practice by giving your child problems that are similar to the examples on these charts. The hardest part about problem solving is comprehending what the problem is asking. Therefore, before your child begins to solve the problem have him/her retell what's happening in the beginning, middle and end of the story.
