By the end of kindergarten students are expected to solve addition and subtraction story problems within 10. This means that the answer to an addition story will be no higher than 10 and the subtraction stories will begin with a number no higher than 10. Below is a chart showing the different types of addition and subtraction stories kindergarten students are expected to solve. At home, you can practice by giving your child problems that are similar to the examples on the chart. When working on these problem types it is helpful to have your child act out the story with objects or by drawing simple pictures such as circles.
