In 2nd grade students students extend their place value understanding to now include the hundreds place. They review the tens and ones places from 1st grade and learn about the place value of numbers up to 999. Using place value understanding, they compare numbers using symbols and determine 10 more, 10 less, 100 more and 100 less of a given number. Lots of time is spent at school building and exploring numbers and their place values with various hands-on math tools. Below is an anchor chart and videos that share some of the vocabulary and concepts your child is learning. The place value guide goes into more detail and gives sample questions. Finally, included is a game and some place value blocks you can print at home. The blocks are great for building, visualizing and exploring numbers and can be used with some of the sample questions from the place value guide.
