RTI is designed to be an extra layer of support for students & teachers. Our RTI Specialist, will team with you to ensure that your student finishes the course successfully. Students are moved to RTI once a withdrawal is requested, after 3 weeks of no work, has a passing grade, and the student is at least 70%+ complete.

RTI Prevention

It is a best practice to work with your students diligently to prevent them from being transferred to RTI. Below, you will find helpful tips for reengaging and keeping students successful in your course.

RTI Eligibility Requirements

In order for a student to be eligible for RTI, they must:

be at least 70% complete with their current segment
be at least 21+ days with no work
have received 3 call attempts in the last 3 weeks
have a passing grade (60%+) in the course

The RTI Process

Once a student becomes a non worker (21+ days of no work) and is at least 70% complete, it may be best to request for them to be withdrawn to RTI. This way, the student will have multiple layers of support as they finish the course. Having access to 2 teachers will only increase student success!

Please review the RTI process and steps below to prepare your student for RTI.

Steps for RTI

As you prepare to request an RTI student, please follow the process below:

1. ENSURE THE STUDENT IS 70% COMPLETE WITH A PASSING GRADE (60%+).

2. EXEMPT ASSIGNMENTS AND UPDATE INFO IN VSA

Next, please make sure to:

- exempt all blank assessments and the collaboration
- update all contact information in VSA (parent and student numbers should be updated on file, not just in the comment box)

3. SUBMIT WITHDRAW TO RTI

Put in your WD to RTI request.

- Your RTI request should include:
  - Reason: "Student is not meeting learning commitment."
  - Request: TR: WD to RTI
  - Last Assignment Submitted (LAS): insert date of LAS
  - Calls & WD to RTI Text Date: Insert last 3 NW calls and the date of your RTI text

**Reminder: Only our IL will place students in RTI (Request “W to RTI.”) Do not move a student to RTI yourself!**

The TEACHER'S Role in the RTI Process

You may be wondering, "Now that I have a student in RTI, what should I do? How can I help?" This is a great question! Once your student is moved to RTI, this does not mean you won't have contact with that student. This does mean that our RTI Specialist is there to support YOU and the STUDENT, as you work together to help the student finish successfully!

RTI Best Practices

Continued Contact

Although the RTI Specialist will be reaching out to your student throughout each week, it is important for you to continue to monitor your RTI student(s) and reach out for weekly calls, as needed.
- TIP: use the Active, RTI filter so that you still see the RTI student(s) in your VSA

Grading Student's Work

You are the teacher of record, so RTI student work will still go to your grading inbox. Our RTI Specialist will try to grade when able, especially if she completed a help session for a specific assessment, but if you see RTI student work, please grade the assessments as you normally would.
Grade all valid work attempts, even if the grade is a low F, instead of sending work back. Use the rubric on all assignments and give credit for what is done.

Often, this is the key to completions!

DBAs

Our RTI Specialist will gladly offer to complete DBAs with RTI students. As she completes DBAs, students are instructed to type “Completed with Mrs. _____” when submitting DBAs. The DBAs will be logged in VSA that day and graded in Educator by RTI Specialist.
- You are more than welcome to complete DBAs with your student, still! Be sure to log any DBAs you complete with RTI students right away so the remaining work info is always up to date and accurate!

Academic Integrity

If any important issues arise, such as AI, RTI Specialist will let you know. If you encounter any AI issues for RTI students, please contact RTI Specialist ASAP!
- If RTI Specialist grades an AI assignment, she will submit the AI ticket for you, and then forward you a copy of the AI ticket. Any E1 AI incidents should be typed immediately in the VSA shared comments box and the AI ticket email logged immediately in VSA - even if you have not yet contacted the student. This keeps from overlapping AI tickets and contacts.

Successful Completion from RTI

RTI students remain in RTI until they finish the segment exam. Once they complete the exam, RTI Specialist will usually grade it as soon as possible, contact the family with final results, then process the student out of RTI.
- This means that the RTI student will be restored back to active status for you. RTI Specialist will then contact you in Teams to submit the final grade.
As a reminder, please do not remove a student from RTI - even if the student is working or has completed the final exam. If there is a reason you would like a student restored back to active, please contact RTI Specialist and she will restore to active for you, if appropriate.
- We monitor RTI students consistently throughout the day. They go through a data collection process including submissions, remaining assessments + why and when they are restored to active. So moving a student to or from RTI will skew the RTI data.
