Academic integrity is a concept used to address the many facets of authenticity within a student's work. A student who upholds a high standard of academic integrity maintains that the work he or she turns in is authentic and true to the knowledge he or she has acquired. It is important to submit EVERY AI incident that you come across in your course, and log the information / ticket for the AI incident.

To help educate students on the importance of Academic Integrity, we will be encouraging all new students to complete an AI lesson titled, English 1: Academic Integrity Lesson. The AI lesson will be the student's first assignment in English 1. Although this is not an actual lesson within the course, the lesson is designed for students to complete it outside of the course, yet earn credit within the course. Please review the resources below to help students understand all about Academic Integrity.
Students will complete the English 1 Academic Integrity Lesson and Quiz.
Students will submit their grade in the Enrichment Assessment 1 assignment in their English 1 course Gradebook.
Information and directions about completing this lesson have been added to the English 1 Welcome Email, the New Student Welcome Packet, and the Resources Slide on the Announcements Page. A forcing slide with directions has also been uploaded to Educator for your students in CA and Week 1 to see.

When a student commits an AI incident, it is important to submit an academic integrity ticket, mark the assignment as AI (using the ⭐ in Educator), complete a learning intervention, and log all information in the student's VSA.

Below you will find important updates (as of May 2023) regarding the use of Chat GPT and expectations for instructors moving forward:
● Moving forward for academic integrity incidents regarding artificial intelligence we ask that you have a conversation with the student before submitting the academic integrity incident to determine if the student has mastery of the work they submitted.
● The use of ChatGPT (or other artificial intelligence tools) is not in itself an academic integrity incident. Is the student able to demonstrate knowledge of the assessment/lesson? If the student can demonstrate knowledge of the assessment/lesson, please log your conversation and no academic integrity incident is required. If you determine the student used an outside source and/or cannot demonstrate mastery of the lesson, please submit an academic integrity incident with details about your conversation and appropriate TurnItIn links or other documentation.

Proctored Exams
Proctored Exams
Proctored exams are required for students when they have multiple AI issues. FLVS may, at its discretion, require a proctored segment exam for any student on a situational basis. Academic Integrity proctored exams must be successfully passed (grade of 59.5% or higher) on the first attempt in order for a student to be eligible for course credit.
If a proctored exam is required, please use the following steps to submit the proctored exam help ticket:
When the student is ready to take the segment exam, please be sure that you have contacted the student and parent prior to the AI team calling to schedule.
The student should be aware that the exam is being requested and should know that it is a requirement that the student pass the exam with at least a 60%.
Please be sure to discuss this situation with your IL. In the event the student does NOT pass the exam, the AI team will recommend a 0% CF with your IL’s approval.
3. Please fill out the Service Now ticket / help ticket in its entirety to ensure the exam is scheduled quickly.
Fill out the needed information about the student, and the AI team will reach out to the student to schedule the proctored exam.
At this point, the proctored exam is out of your hands. It is up to the AI team to reach out and schedule the exam with the student and family. Once the AI team speaks with the student and schedules the exam, you will receive an email, addressed to the student and family with directions and their date/time for taking the exam. See the example email below:
Once the student successfully completes the exam, the exam will appear in your gradebook. You will receive an email with directions to follow (as seen below). Once you have graded the final exam, email the AI team with the student’s exam grade and overall final grade.
Remember to log each step and your communications with the student/parents in VSA with the incident number (INC) included, and “Academic Integrity” checked from log menu.
