Grace period students are in the first few weeks of your class. It is important to reach out to Grace Period students each week, to ensure they get off to a strong start in the course. This is the most important time to encourage your students, share information, and set expectations for the class. Maintaining contact is the key to student success!
What is the Grace Period?
The GP is the FIRST 14 DAYS a student is active in the course.
The grace period is a time where students and parents can decide if this is the right path for their education.
Student will receive a “W” if withdrawn in the first 14 days which does not affect their grade
If you and the parent are communicating and the student needs an additional week, you may put in a W after the “official grace period” has ended.
Building Relationships in the Grace Period
The most important thing you can do during the grace period is call your students and start building those relationships!
Set expectations! It is very important that students submit work each week during the course, which should be encouraged during the grace period.
Send students a copy of our pace charts that are available on the welcome email, the announcements page, and in the new student welcome packet.
The weekly grace period calls are a wonderful time to share resources and make sure students have what they need to be successful in the course.
