It is important to keep in contact with students that are close to finishing up your course, to keep them moving forward. Usually, students that are 80%+ complete have 3 or less assignments left in the course (regular credit). Remember, they could be stuck on their last assignment, or need a DBA, so we need to check in weekly. Sometimes, students may have the collaboration left. Remember, the collaboration is optional. So you can ask if they still want to attend a live lesson or not. We can exempt the collaboration assignment if they choose not to attend a live lesson.
Here are a few tips to help as you reach out weekly:
Call these students weekly with a game plan -- make an end goal date with the student to reference as you check-in
Communicate to parent about progress weekly (send a group text to a student and parent), and they should be finishing that WEEK!
Encourage them to attend a live lesson to help with their last assignment(s).
If you do not see progress, reach out to a teammate for a scary “ghost” call to get that final submission!
Always send a follow up text and be specific: Hi, ____! You are so close to finishing up Eng. 1! You only have assignments 3.08 and 3.09 left before we can see you cross the finish line and take your exam this week! What can I help you with to make sure you are finishing strong-- you’re almost there!
