Pink Out for Women's Breast Cancer Awareness Day! Begun by Susan G. Komen's sister in 1980 in her memory to bring awareness (Race for the Cure) to getting those mammograms; Coffee County's women carry the torch locally.
On October 14, we wear red to celebrate the life of a man who was taken too soon. Charlie Kirk spoke out about his beliefs, both political and religious, and did not back down when confronted about them. He was strong in his faith, and inspired youth to not listen to the media but to instead do their own research. Charlie will forever be remembered for speaking up against what is wrong in this world.

We have been doing Childhood Cancer Awareness Day at our school for many years. We do childhood cancer awareness at our school to help support our community in their efforts to raise money for families in our area with financial burdens due to their children's illnesses. Many families in Douglas, GA, suffer from the burden of childhood cancer and need help with the cost of the treatment.
Childhood cancer awareness is very important to our school because we have had students at First Academy and their families personally affected by childhood cancer. The school knows the value that its students can bring to our community by helping raise money. At First Academy, we do a fundraiser for shirts to help raise money for our community. Our community comes together every year to help these families in need.
Several members of our office staff have personally helped in raising money for Childhood Cancer Awareness Group of Coffee County (CCAGCC). The staff in our office helps by showing awareness, along with selling shirts and giving the money to the families. One member of the office, Mrs Katie, sells mums during the week of August and gives all the proceeds back to CCAGCC.
Childhood cancer has affected many people in our office personally. Mrs Katie was personally affected by childhood cancer when a family member was diagnosed with leukemia when she was just 10 years old. She beat cancer till her early 30s when the cancer returned in her bones. After multiple surgeries, it spread to her lungs in 2020, and she eventually lost her battle in 2022. This story shows that these situations are real and life-changing.
Coffee County does many things to raise money for CCAGCC. A few weeks ago, Coffee County held a pageant and raised over 7500 dollars to donate to the Childhood Cancer Awareness Group of Coffee County. Next week, Coffee County will hold an auction to raise money.
Our community is well tied into Childhood Cancer Awareness. We have many events throughout the year to help the families that are struggling in our area due to this illness. These families should not have to worry about who is going to pay for the treatment; they should be able to just worry about their children's health.
