Mrs. Ashley’s kindergarten class is staying busy and learning lots during the cold month of January. In phonics, students are focusing on open syllables, while in grammar, they continue to learn about adjectives and how these words describe people, places, and things. In math, the class is studying Chapter 13, which teaches about whole and equal parts. As the school year begins to wrap up, students will also begin cumulative testing, but there is still plenty of time for fun winter activities. The 100th day of school is on the 20th of January. On this eventful day, the kids will celebrate by donning canes and walkers while dressing up as old people and enjoying a special day of learning and laughter.

This week, Mrs. Ashley’s kindergarten class has been busy with many fun and meaningful activities! The children are learning the patriotic song “The Grand Old Flag” to perform at the Veterans Day program, showing their appreciation for our country’s heroes. The kindergarteners are also continuing to work on Thanksgiving crafts, including colorful placemats, Native American vests, Indian headbands, and bead necklaces to wear at First Academy’s 2025 Thanksgiving Feast on November 20. In math, the kindergarteners have been exploring calendars and reviewing their addition skills. In language arts, they’re studying letters C, Z, E, and U. One way Mrs. Ashley teaches the children letters is by using a catchy cat-themed alphabet song, which makes learning exciting and engaging. During snack time, the children enjoy listening to Mrs. Ashley’s helper, Mrs. Elizabeth, read the book Dinosaur Rumpus, filling the room with laughter and imagination. Mrs. Ashley is especially proud of how her students are being excellent and quiet as they line up for Bible class, showing kindness, patience, and respect in the classroom.
