On January 12, the first grade class participated in a phonics lesson focused on the three sounds made by the “ea” vowel team. As part of the activity, students sorted words by sound and practiced language skills by unscrambling sentences, reinforcing both phonics recognition and sentence structure. This helps them learn how to pronounce many words and how to read faster.
Earlier in the month, on January 9, first graders spent time exploring a variety of history and science topics during a structured free-choice activity. Students investigated subjects such as animals, insects, presidents, national parks, and space, giving them the opportunity to build curiosity and practice independent learning across multiple content areas.

🍁November
On November 21, first grade enjoyed their Thanksgiving Brunch. Our little Pilgrims welcomed the Native Americans with open arms, and personalized headbands!🦃
1st Grade is currently learning phonics, compound words, nouns and verbs. Information about Native Americans and telling time on clocks are some of the subjects that they just finished learning. They really enjoy learning about phonics, especially with their phonics video.
Learning how to break up compound words and decide which words go together is the main subject that they are learning right now. One of the words they practiced was “Grapevine.” They are becoming really good at breaking up compound words.
The weather didn't keep 1st grade down! They had a blast on their field trip to Poppell Farms on Tuesday.
