March 🍀
In Bible class, they are having a Bible drill competition on March 25th. Students have been learning 30 verses in three categories: identifying verses from part of the verse, matching doctrines to related scriptures, and answering common questions with scripture. In addition, students have been learning their Books of the Bible in order so that they can turn to any of the 30 verses, a book of the Bible, or a random scripture in eight seconds or less.
As we lead up to Holy Week, we are learning about some of the last moments Jesus had leading up to his death. Lessons for March include "The Fullness of Time Had Come", "The Trimuphal Entry", "Days of Conflict, Final Warnings", and "The Last Passover". The last week in March, we will be helping to prepare for the Passover Chapel Service as we remember the Last Supper before Christ died on the cross.
In Math, they have just started learning integer exponents and exponential functions, and they have been using IXL for more practice
to help them get better at how to do their math work
In ELA, they are working on Argumentative Essays, Book reports on their own novel, Greek and Latin Roots, Pronouns and their Usage, reading "The Necklace" short story, reading the novel The Bronze Bow, and reading/writing some poetry. That is what they will be doing all of March for ELA.

Addy Velazquez:
In Bible class, the eighth graders are continuing to learn their Bible Drill verses for their competition in March. They have set a goal to earn a special food party of their choice by the competition date of March 25th. They are also learning that Jesus was our greatest example of humility, forgiveness, and love, and how to incorporate these qualities into their own lives as they follow Christ. On Grandparents' Day, they made bags and letters to give to their grandparents, putting little gifts in the bags and gave them out. Students worked really hard to make gifts their grandparents would love, and they were really happy to do this, have chapel, and praise God with them.
In math, they are still working on slope, and getting into graphing. They work on IXL for practice, so they can get better at how to graph on a coordinate plane.
In science, they have new books and are learning a little bit of health, just like the 9th grades and take notes about the human body. and are still doing Questions of the Day.

The eighth graders math class is now starting to learn about slopes, and they will be measuring a line's steepness and direction as the ratio of vertical change. They are going to know about the rise and run that is part of the graph, and the slope. Sometimes, it is hard for them to get it, but Mrs. Gray helps them so much that they can understand more about the slope.
In ELA, They are reading a book about the Berlin Wall, which was a heavily-fortified concrete barrier built by East Germany (GDR) starting August 13, 1961, to stop its citizens from fleeing to democratic West Berlin. It stood until November 9, 1989.
8th Grade is continuing to review 20 of the 30 verses required for the Bible Drill competition in March. They had a crossword puzzle this week to help them review. In addition, they are starting to learn the poetry books of the Old Testament. They learned about how Hebrew poetry and songs were different from the music and poems we have today. Then they started to read the story of Job, and considered how his relationship with God should impact our own lives. Next week, the eighth graders will learn the remaining 10 verses for Bible Drill called "Bible Answer Verses". They will also be working their way through the book of Psalms.
In science, they got new books, but they are still doing QOD. They will not have a science fair this year, but they will be learning so much through the end of the year.
