The Exhibitions Preparator will assist with the fabrication, assembly, installation, dismantling, and/or moving of exhibit properties. Reports to Production Supervisor/Manager, and Production Director.
Preparator I
Assist with fabrication, assembly, installation, dismantling and/or moving of exhibit properties.
Cleaning and repairing existing exhibits and displays
Mounting and dismounting artifacts
Building prototypes, samples, and models
Other appropriate duties as assigned
Preparator II
In addition to Exhibit Preparator I duties:
may be asked to train staff in production methods and related health and safety issues
works with other Design and Production staff to solve production problems
responsible for quality and timeliness of production work against established deadlines
performs other appropriate duties as assigned.
Preparator III
In addition to Exhibit Preparator II duties:
May serve as lead on a project, training and supervising assigned staff, maintaining tools, equipment, and supplies, and coordinating with other departments, contractors, and suppliers
Responsible for highly skilled production-related tasks
May assume overall responsibility for the supervision and operation of a major shop area
May supervise a team of preps up to 6 people
Assist with determining specific material needs, quantities, construction sequences, finishes, and assembly procedures and may initiate purchase orders
May participate in developing bid packages, shop drawings, material and finish specifications for estimates and quotes.
May be responsible for organization and content of traveling exhibits, records, packing instructions, assembly information, inventories and related tasks.
