Aethium Armor & Weapons

"At first glance, the metal does not look like something mined from the earth, but rather a direct tear in the fabric of reality itself. Its surface is a swirling, irregular canvas of deep midnight black, mimicking the vast and clouded expanse of the Milky Way galaxy.

Embedded throughout the metal are thousands of tiny, irregular points of light that seem to move. When the metal moves, these inner stars do slide across the surface; they remain perfectly fluid, and they twinkle and optically shift as they catch the light. It creates a breathtaking, dizzying illusion of endless depth, as if you are staring straight through a solid blade or breastplate and directly into the heart of the deep cosmos."

Aethium Armor

AC Base: You gain a +1 base Armor Class while wearing this armor.
Starlight Resilience: Whenever you take damage from an attack while wearing this armor, reduce the damage you take by 3 (after calculating resistances or vulnerabilities).
Weight & Restrictions: This armor retains standard weight, Strength requirements, and Dexterity (Stealth) disadvantage as listed in the standard armor table (the properties of Adamantine and Mithral balance out to the net equivalent of steel).

Aethium Weapon

Celestial Flexibility: The weapon gains the Finesse property. You use either Strength or Dexterity for attack and damage rolls.
Cosmic Precision: Your attacks with this weapon score a critical hit on a roll of 19 or 20.
Dense Momentum: Attacks made with this weapon bypass resistance to piercing and slashing damage. If a creature has immunity to piercing or slashing damage, your attacks treat that immunity as resistance instead.

Astral Sentience

The Awakening: Upon cooling into its permanent geometric shape, the Aethium traps the ambient cosmic resonance, awakening a sentient consciousness within the item.
The Mirror Soul: The item’s alignment, personality traits, and goals are directly shaped by the mind, emotions, and soul of the smith who forged it.
Communication: The item can communicate telepathically with its creator, often using the exact same whispering voice that originally called out to them across the wilderness.

The True Forging Law of Aethium

The Volcanic Sweet Spot: While the metal is kept at or near volcanic temperatures, it remains workable. It can be poured into hot molds, removed while solid-but-glowing-hot, beaten on an anvil, drawn out, and folded like high-grade steel.
The Permanent Freeze: The absolute point of no return happens during the cooling process. As it drops below its high thermal threshold and cools down to a temperature that is safe and comfortable to the touch, its molecular geometry undergoes a permanent stasis lock.
The Afterwork: Once it has completely cooled to room temperature, the grand geometry is permanent. You can no longer heat it back up to melt or fold it. However, the surface remains workable for cold-smithing techniques: grinding a razor edge, polishing the face, or carving a crest into the metal.
