Mile 38: "Mud-Lark" (The Scavengers)
Mud-Lark is a sprawling, messy settlement built in a low-lying marshy area of the Gap where seasonal rains turn the dust into thick slurry. The houses are haphazardly constructed from crate-wood and canvas. The "Mud-Larks" spend their days dredging the nearby silt-beds for gear discarded by the Army's ground forces 150 years ago.

Founded in Y130, Mud-Lark sits atop a site where several supply-wagons were abandoned after a flash flood during the early troop deployments. Because the Marshall’s logistics were so poor, these wagons were never recovered. The village grew as scavengers realized the "Mud" was full of iron, leather, and the occasional magical bauble. It remains independent because no hegemon wants to deal with the literal filth required to harvest the site.
