We need some extra hands for a painting project! If you have an approved background check, and would like to join us, you can sign up HERE.Â
If you would like to volunteer during our classroom reading block, and have an approved background check, you can sign up to volunteer HERE. It automatically sends me an email when you sign up so there is no need to tell me as well. When you arrive to volunteer, stop in the office to sign in and grab a visitor badge before you come to the classroom. You will need to return the badge and sign out when you leave.Â
Thank you to everyone that signed up to donate to our fall snack. Items should be brought to school by October 29th.

In your child's folder I sent home a literacy activity that connects to what their reading group is currently working on. If you would like to work on math at home, page 23-32 in your child's pink math notebook cover current skills. You do not need to return math pages, but if you work on math you can mark it on your home learning log.
We had a visit from the fire house to talk about fire safety! This is a great time to talk as a family about where you meet if there is a fire at your home and to learn your address in case of emergency.
Now that we finished our alphabet study, our literacy block has changed a bit! This new routine gives students that are ready for higher level skills the instruction they need, while also making sure the students that need extra support with previously covered skills get that time as well.
Here's our new routine:
First, everyone does a 5-10 minutes phonemic awareness lesson.
Then, everyone does a 5 minute high frequency word drill.
After that, everyone completes their 15-20 minutes of Lexia time. This is a reading app that the district uses. It provides individualized lessons for each child based on their needs.
Then, students that are still learning their letter go to table spots and complete independent work. While they are working independently, the other students are at the carpet doing a consonant-vowel-consonant lesson with me. This lesson includes segmenting cvc words, writing them, reading sentences, and writing a sentence together using some of the words we practiced.
Finally, the students learning cvc words go to their table spots to complete independent work while I do a reading group lesson with the student working on letter identification and sounds.Â
In math, we learned a new game that practices number identification, ten frames, and comparing greater/less than. There's a similar activity in this week's math home learning pages.
We read the Eric Carle story, The Very Clumsy Click Beetle. Then we did a sequencing activity to practice retelling the story.
In art class, the kids practiced their glue bottle fine motor skills while painting salt butterflies. Also, here's some photos from choice time!
