In your child's Friday folder I have included some optional alphabet and cvc word activities. If you would like to work on math at home, pages 3-4 in your child's pink math notebook cover current skills.Â
We will not have library next week because we do not have school on Friday. Please return folders by Thursday.
If you would like to volunteer in our classroom this year, please fill out the background check form HERE. We will start classroom volunteers in October!

Our Étude elementary, middle, and high facebook pages are in the process of being merged into one. If you'd like to see posts, make sure you follow the Étude Schools facebook with the maroon logo!
In math, we have been learning how to use a "five frame" tool to count and recognize groups of objects. We have also been working on writing the numbers 0-5 in our whole group lessons and when we played a new work place game.
We finally got a chance to hang up our classroom expectations!
In literacy, we have covered the letters Aa, Mm, Ss, Tt, Pp, Ff, Ii, Nn, and Oo. We also officially started our reading rotations! We start every literacy block with a phonemic awareness lesson and singing our alphabet song. Then we learn about a new letter and practice blending and writing some cvc words together.
After our whole group reading lesson, we complete 4 reading rotations: Lexia on the iPad, independent notebook, reading group with the teacher, and a hands on practice activity. Right now, all of our activities are focused on letter identification, sound fluency, and cvc words.
In your child's Friday folder I sent home a cvc activity we've been working on in our reading groups. If your child knows the letter names and sounds we've already covered so far at school, this is a great activity to practice at home. Here's a video of one of our reading groups using it to give you a better idea of how it works!
Our mystery insects are growing! We have figured out they are caterpillars, but we still don't know what kind. They have gotten much bigger and they are starting to "j hang" which means they are getting ready to change again. They are very excited to see what they look like when we get back on Monday!
We've been looking closely at our bugs and documenting our observations and predictions of what we think they could be.
