Morning Drop Off
Some parents have asked about the first day drop off procedures. After many, many years of teaching littles, I've learned that saying goodbye outside on the first day of school works best for both kids and parents. I will be outside from 7:50-8:05 to welcome students and wait with them before we go inside. If you would like to walk with your child to the blacktop meeting area (next to the playground) to say your goodbyes, that's more than welcome! In my experience, when parents walk all the way to the classroom door, the kiddos have a much harder time saying goodbye. Also, it helps keep our building safe to not have everyone walking inside.
Snack Time
Please remember to send a snack in your child's backpack. Due to severe allergies in our classroom, please refrain from packing snacks with peanuts or tree nuts. I also encourage cold lunch kiddos to eat some of their leftovers during snack time.
School Hours
Before school blacktop supervision is from 7:50-8:05. Breakfast and quiet activities are from 8:05-8:20 until our learning times start. Kindergarten eats lunch at 10:50am. Our official school hours are 8:15-3:15.
Dismissal Time
Please make sure you have your car tag in the passenger side front window area. If you are walking to pick up your child, please bring your car tag the first couple weeks until I learn everyone's name. We officially start dismissal at 3:15, but kindergarten sits in the school entrance, or outside on nice days, so we start releasing the littles as soon as we're out there.
Adjustment Time
It is VERY common for kindergartners to be exhausted and hungry after school during the first few weeks. Their little bodies are adjusting to the full day and eating in a lunchroom. This is perfectly normal! I've been teaching kindergarten for 14 years and am very much a night owl... even I am lucky to stay awake past 5:00pm the first week of school.
First Day Check In
I do my best to email everyone a quick check in on the first day of school so you can see how well your child is doing (because they will do great!) Keep an eye out if you want to see their smiling face to help ease your worries.
Preparing for School
Putting on shoes (if they can’t tie please send slip on or velcro)
Opening and packing up lunch items
Eating lunch within 20-25 minutes
Opening a water bottle, filling it, and putting the lid back on
Using the bathroom and handwashing independently
Putting on a jacket, buttoning pants, zipping, etc.
Packing, and unpacking, a backpack
Extra Clothes
Please make sure that you have sent along extra clothes for your child in case of accidents or spills. Please provide a shirt, pants, socks, and underpants. Have them labeled with their name in a bag.
Gym Shoes
If you have not yet sent gym shoes for your child please do so by Thursday when we have our first gym class. Gym shoes will be kept at school and should be labeled with your child's name. Please send velcro if your child is not able to quickly tie their shoes yet.
Art Shirt
We apologize for not putting an art shirt on the school supply list. We didn't know kindergarten would have art until after the lists went out. We will be going to art class so please send an art shirt with your child as soon as you are able to. The best art shirts for the little ones are oversized t-shirts. They cover the most clothing and are fairly easy to get on and off compared to something like an apron.
