In your child's Friday folder I have included some optional name and number writing activities. If you would like to work on math at home, pages 5-6 in your child's pink math notebook cover current skills.
We are planning on hiking sometime this week. The mosquitos have been pretty bad in the woods which is why we haven't ventured out yet. I will send an email the day before we hike so you know to send your child in appropriate clothing and shoes.
If you would like to volunteer in our classroom this year, please fill out the background check form HERE. We will start classroom volunteers next week!

I realized we've barely had any photos from choice time yet this year. Of course it's one of their favorite parts of the day!
In math, we've been learning how to read, write, and count numbers 0-10. During our whole group time, we played a subitizing game where I flash a group of dots and the kids have to build it on their own ten frame. Subitizing is when I child can recognize a group of objects and their total. We also played a new work place game called "Beat You to Five". In this game two students race to get exactly 5 cubes first.
In literacy, we added Dd, Cc, Uu, and Gg to the letters we've been learning about.
We have also continued blending and segmenting CVC words. Some of our reading groups were ready to try manipulating sounds. This means we build a word and then change that word into a new one by only changing one sound. For example we might start with the word cat, then turn it into mat, then turn that into map, and so on. Here's some videos of a couple reading groups practicing this skill. This activity is a really easy one to do at home with magnetic letters or even a white board!
Our caterpillars have moved into their chrysalis stage. We can't wait until they emerge so we can identify what kind of butterfly or moth we have!
