Mrs. Held, our art teacher, is in need of cereal boxes (or other thin cardboard) if you have any at home you'd like to send in.
Some have asked for our classroom Amazon wishlist so here you go! https://a.co/alUSQxG
If you would like to volunteer during our classroom reading block, and have an approved background check, you can sign up to volunteer HERE. It automatically sends me an email when you sign up so there is no need to tell me as well. When you arrive to volunteer, stop in the office to sign in and grab a visitor badge before you come to the classroom. You will need to return the badge and sign out when you leave.

If you would like to work on math at home, page 74-89 in your child's pink math notebook cover current skills. I also sent home the February home learning log in Friday folders.
We got together with the 2nd grade class for a buddy activity. Currently, the 2nd graders are learning about cartography. We combined their knowledge of maps with our fairy tales and created Fairy Tale Maps.
The whole school got together in the gym to play a Kahoot trivia game. Every group had a mix of K-5 students so we got a chance to meet new friends!
In math we've been working a bit more on adding and subtracting. We learned a new game called The Forest Game. You can play this at home! It is in our math home learning pages this week.
In math, we've also started some measurement lessons. We started with talking about measuring the length of objects with unifix cubes.
We began our first engineering challenge for Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We are building miniature chairs to replace the one Goldilocks broke in the story. First, we observed some chairs and did a See-Think-Wonder thinking routine.
Then, we got together in our engineering teams. Each team chose a chair to use for inspiration while building theirs.
Then, the teams decided what maker materials they're going to use to build their chair.
It's almost the end of trimester 2 so we've began our report card assessments. Here's some photos of us working on our writing samples that will be shared at the upcoming Presentations of Learning (POLs).
We've been working hard on our illustrating and sentence writing! We've started a new writing activity where we spin a who, what, or where wheel full of options for our writing prompt. Here's a screenshot of what one of the wheels looks like:
